ENGLISH SCHOOL, 19th century A half length portrait of Roger Sturley Nunn (1813-1882) as a young man, c. 1828, depicted leaning against a column holding a riding crop, wearing a black hunting jacket, with landscape beyond, oil on canvas, 75cm x 62cm in a foliate moulded gilt frame R.S. Nunn was a Colchester based Surgeon who performed the first operation under ether anaesthesia in Colchester on the 12th February 1847, although the patient died the next day. Described by the Colchester Medical Society as "A great drinker who insisted on drinking at patients' houses" and "A foppish lady-killer who was once horse-whipped by an angry husband upon the discovery of an affair with his wife"
AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY 18CT GOLD OMEGA GRAND PRIX PARIS 1900 POCKET WATCH signed to the dial by the retailer D. Ladislas, Tunis. The square shaped case with circular enamel dial having painted Roman numerals and seconds dial, fronting a spring driven movement with balance wheel escapement. The back door set with a pressed gold portrait - signed by Levis Bottés and stamped FRANCE and hallmarked 10R, the inner case door stamped 18K and serial numbers No. 27691 and 3818340 7cm high overall 5cm wide.
