†ERIC JAMES MELLON (1925-2014); 'Derek Davis', a limited edition aquatint, edition no. 13/50, signed lower right, 15 x 10.5cm, framed and glazed.Derek Davis was a close friend of Mellon's from 1946. Davis died in 2008 and a few months before that, Mellon suggested he visit and that they would draw each other. Mellon's portrait of Davis was thus drawn directly from life, using drypoint. Later Mellon developed the plate into an aquatint.Illustrated in 'Eric James Mellon: 65 Years of Printmaking' (University of Chichester, 2010), p. 83. Provenance: Estate of Eric James Mellon.
