Robert Beatson (1730–1805), a writer, married Jean (née Read) and had four children; Captain Robert Beatson, Major General Alexander, John and Helena. Jean was the sister of the artist Katherine Read, who later taught her daughter, Helena to paint. Condition Report: The three small oils all appear to be in good condition, the two famed pictures and in generally tired, the smaller one with losses to the frame.
