Anthony Curtis (1938-2018)"Corshamite Variations", an abstraction portrait, geometric highlights of blue, red and yellow on a dark impasto ground, oil on board, signed and dated 1952, titled verso, 55 cm x 58 cm overall[Curtis was born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, and studied at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham in 1952. He was taught by many influential artists of the 20th Century, including Terry Frost, Bryan Wynter, Peter Lanyon and Kenneth Armitage. These artists were renowned for their abstract art, spearheading an art movement that rejected traditional realism and explored new ways of creating, elements evident in Curtis' work. His work was exhibited at the Daily Express Young Artist’s Exhibition in 1957 and he also held numerous one-man shows at Bear Lane Gallery, Oxford. In 2002 he won an International Prize at the Royal West of England Academy.]
