English School, 19th century A marine portrait of the Herradura of Guernsey watercolour, titled in right hand corner 19 x 28in (48.5 x 71cm). * The Herradura was one of the vessels once owned by the Le Lacheur family which was used for, amongst other cargos, the exportation of coffee beans. The enterprise of Captain William Le Lacheur and a number of Guernsey men helped to transform the once poor Spanish colony of Costa Rica in Central America to a prosperous nation between the years of 1844-1886 and almost 200 round trips between Puntarenas and London have now been documented. The Herradura was built Aberdeen in 1868 by Alexander Hall & Co. and weighed 612 Tons. Sold in 1884.
