JACK CUDWORTH (1930 - 2010)Portrait of Stephane GrappelliOil on board, 29.5 x 40cmSigned lower right Jack Cudworth was born in Leeds on St. Patrick's Day 1930. He studied at the Leeds college of art. He came to Dublin in 1953 and remains until 1975 when he then moved to Bury, St. Edmund, Suffolk, later moving to Harrogate in Yorkshire in 1984. In addition to his skill as an artist, he was also a jazz clarinettist of repute, and while in Dublin he was known in Jazz circles as Phil Butler. Together with Rock Fox (Chas Meredith) the jazz saxophonist, he was co-leader of the Butler Fox band which was hugely popular in the Dublin Jazz scene in the 1970's. This included the memorable weekly session in Slattery's pub in Capel St.He was a friend of the guitarist Diz Dizzly who in later life revived the career of Stefan Grappelli and together they played with the Vernon City Ramblers. His paintings are included in the collections of RTE, Bank of Ireland and The Office of Public Works.See also lot 522 for portrait of Django Reinhardt.

Henry Daniel Thielcke (1787-1874), a portrait miniature of HRH Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales (1796-1817), seated before a red curtain and landscape background, wearing a blue dress with lace bonnet, watercolour on ivory, signed, titled and dated 1818 to arm of chair, image 10.2cm x 7.5cm, under glass framed by ormolu frame surmounted by crown to ebony.
A 19th century oval portrait miniature pendant, of a lady wearing a blue and white dress, watercolour, under glass within precious yellow metal frame, height 21mm, suspended from a later 9ct. gold ribbon brooch, with textured finish set three graduated seed pearls to centre.(total gross weight 7.1g)
