Roman Imperatorial Coinage, Julius Cæsar, Denarius, March-April 44, imper caesar, wreathed head of Cæsar right, rev. m mettivs, Venus Victrix standing left, holding Victoriola and transverse sceptre, leaning upon shield set atop globe, 3.89g (Craw. 480/17; BMCRR 4137; RSC 35). A few light scratches below dark cabinet tone, very fine, the portrait better and well-centred £900-£1,200
Roman Imperatorial Coinage, Sextus Pompeius, Denarius, Sicily, 42-36, bust of Pompey the Great right, jug to left and lituus to right, rev. Neptune standing between Anapias and Amphinomus, 3.93g (Craw. 511/3a; BMCRR Sicily 7-12; RSC 17). Scratched in field before face and with an area of striking weakness at 6 o’clock, otherwise good very fine, superb portrait £400-£600 --- Anapias and Amphinomus find prominence in mythology for their actions during the eruption of Mount Etna. The two brothers slowed their escape from Catana in order to carry their parents from the city, a scene visualised on the reverse of this coin. The subsequent lava flow from the volcano is said to have consumed those citizens who troubled only to save gold and silver but spared the pious Catanæan brothers. Sextus’ use of the scene parallels his familial piety to that of Anapias and Amphinomus.

Extremely fine and rare, a poignant study £60-£80 --- The Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp, a Nazi facility located high in the Vosges mountains on territory annexed from France in 1940, operated from May 1941 to September 1944. Including: a Victorian red and gilt album titled Photographic Groups of Eminent Personages, Photograph Album of Figaro Programme 1875, a tooled red leather and brass bound album featuring members of the Royal family including Queen Victorian and Prince Albert, Princess Beatrice, Palmerston and others, some inscribed, and others Condition Report: Most albums contain photographs of some form, approximately 100+ included.The negatives are early-mid 20th century with images of houses, there are only a handful of these.
