Lady Bateman : broadly in comparable condition to Sir Hugh Bateman excepting deep cracking and crasing within paint and bitchumin mostly within upper 50-60% excluding flesh-tones of the face. evident old infilling to the mentioned areas which has deteriorated. scuffs/abrasions, minor losses mostly in vertical formation between empire line of dress. framed ensuite.

Follower of Sir Nathaniel Dance-Holland RA (1735-1811) Portrait of Robert B Sheridan (according to label verso), half length, wearing a powdered wig, red jacket with white waistcoat and cravat, holding a book in his left hand Oil on canvas, 74cm by 61cm See illustration . label to reverse stating from O Woodcock Collection. in restored condition, relined, cleaned and revarnished. there is an upturned L shaped repair with associated retouching just above his right hand eyebrow approx 3cm on the horizontal. other areas of minor and sporadic, delicate retouching and infilling of old flaked paint within the base and background in general. there is a [patch of infilling to old craquelure around the mans hand and book which is inconsistant and approx 7 x 5cm overall. further larger patch of overpainting to lower part of gentlemans jacket on the viewers left, roughly 25cm on the horizontal by 8cm. some surface dirt and discoloured varnish. retains some original surface impasto following restoration process. areas of isolated stable craquelure. subtle stretcher shadow. minor rubbing to left hand edge.

British School (18th century) Portrait of a lady, half length, wearing a white dress with blue overcoat trimmed with ermine and flowers pinned to her hair, standing in a landscape Oil on canvas, 74cm by 61cm See illustration. in fully rtestored condition. stiffly relined, cleaned and high gloss varnish. surface somewhat flattened , slight stretcher shadow. surface dirt and discoloured varnish. minor wear to edges especially the left hand side. reasonably sporadic retouching to the sitters face, notably to her left hand cheek. shadows around her neck, chin etc have also been strengthened and there are two to three patches to her chest area of retouching. the greys to describe the darker parts of her ermine are strengthened. as is a degree of the general definition within her bodice and pink waisttie and also folds within the blue of her wrap on her left hand side. background generally strengthened. areas of stable craquelure.

Circle of Thomas Phillips RA (1770-1845) Portrait of a Royal Naval Officer, half length, in uniform Oil on canvas, 88cm by 73.5cm . relined likely old clean and revarnish now showing significant discolouration and surface dirt including slightly chsalky quality in areas, there are numerous superficial scuffs and abrasions across surface. more pronounced horizontal scratch in upper left corner approx 1cm. areas of pronounced small sized craquelure and crazing especially where paint is thinned such as his left hand shoulder and arm, elbow and paint is thin around necktie and the white paint across his chest. larger sized craquelure to face. large right angled tear or repaired damage running fullmlenth of his right hand arm and across shoulder. further areas of restoration throughout.

Two repairs to the folds of the shawl to the chest area, small chip to the fold of the shawl above the right breast (1cm). Overall showing signs of dirt and grime. Facial features; hair, head, neck all in good condition. Socle good

French School (18th century) Portrait of a lady, half length, wearing a blue velvet dress trimmed with lace, a gold embroidered red silk shawl and a jewel encrusted blue ribbon to her hair Oil on canvas, 74cm by 58cm See illustration Provenance: Christies Interiors, Masters and Makers, Lot 256, March 6th, 2012 . old reline clean and re varnishing. two broadly triangular shaped patches of consisitent overpainting and retouching to both upper corners and along upper edge. further general strengthening to background right hand side. the central parting and definition within the hair on both sides displayes signs of retouching and overpaint with some more delicate strands of hair also strenghtneed. the lid and lower part of her left eye has been retouched in addittion to the majority of her chin and left hand side cheek. more delicate and sporadic infilling to minor parts of her chest area. left hand side lapel is mopstly overpaintined, in addition to left hand side shoulder and a good amount of the darker tones and drapery of her costume.lower right hand corner broadly overpainted. craquelure throughout which is more pronounced in places especially across chest area. stretcher shadow. surface abraded. surface dirt and discoloured varnish. damage to frame lower edge just right of centre approx 1cm in length. minor knocks and abrasions to frame. some evidence of old losses can be seen with the naked eye.

An Early Commander’s Set: badge of the Order in GOLD, 85x50 mm, with centre medallion made as a cameo with the portrait of the young Queen Victoria facing left; pale blue enameled outer circlet with the Order’s motto “HEAVEN’S GUIDE OUR LIGHT” made of chiselled silver letters, all set with brilliants; GOLD border with baroque ornaments five-pointed star suspension in silver, plain, gilt-silver ribbon ring, with original neck ribbon; breast star, 85 mm, with slightly flamed rays; gilt silver centre medallion with a silver, chiselled five-pointed star within a white bordered, pale blue enameled circlet made as in form of a tied ribbon (tiny chips to the left ribbon’s end) with the Order’s motto in separately made, silver, chiselled letters, all set with diamonds; plainreverse with centre disc engraved with the maker’s mark: “R. & S. Garrard & Co. Goldsmiths and Jewellers to the Crown 25 Haymarket London” and gold pin; in the original, black morocco fitted case of issue with maker’s mark of Garrard on the inner cushion and a further, full-length neck ribbon.A very rare set of the finest quality, very fine condition.The Order of the Star of India was created in 1861 by Queen Victoria, several years after the Indian Mutiny, when Britain’s power and government in India were again solid and well-established. It was destined to reward Indian Princes and Chiefs as well as British Officers and Civil Administrative who saw their service in India and were signaled for their conspicuous merits. Diplomatically, the first award was done to the heads of the Indian Maharajas and Princes and to the highest British authorities in India.After 1948, no further award was granted. Since 2009, with the death of the last Knight, the Maharaja of Alwar, the Order became dormant. With 229 diamonds for a total of 0.491 ct.I/II RR!

HOPWOOD.”;- Serbia: Order of the White Eagle with Swords, Knight’s badge in gilt silver and enamels.Court mounted, extremely fine condition. A medal bar belonged to a cavalry officer, with an interesting career; an extensive research about the history and the owner of this group is attached. With 109 diamonds for a total of 0.16 ct. Together a “carte de visite” photographic portrait of Baroness Vecsey.A very rare badge of the special division that, although not statutorily, was awarded to nobleladies as a special grace of the Bavarian Queen; very fine condition.This Order, instituted in 1827, had as a mission, the assistance of not yet married noble ladies,from impoverished families, granting a special pension of 300 Florins per year from the “Schatulle”of the Bavarian Queen, until their marriage. Meritorious foreign noble ladies could receive thespecial grade with jewelled monogram (without any pension). With 21 diamonds for a total of 0.058 ct. very rare and superb! I RR!
