Self Portrait, Holding a Book, Standing by Battlements with Armour by her Feet, Watercolour, Signed with Initials and Dated 1807, Unframed, 22" x 18", and the companion piece, her brother, Captain, The Hon George Douglas, very Byronic Seated on a Gun Carriage, Holding a Boarding Pike, a pair (2). Note; both were later engraved in Mezzotint by William Say (1768-1834) British.

ALs. to Mr Rutter, on his blind-stamped notepaper, from Greystones, March 1913, 1 pp, mentioning a letter from Ernest Marriott and offering to lend various original drawings for a children's exhibition in Leeds next Christmas. 'A children's exhibition should make a gay and cheering show'. With a very good signature, framed with a late portrait; and with a copy of Ernest Marriott's Jack B. Yeats, his Pictorial and Dramatic Art, Elkin Mathews n.d., with the folding chart of Pirate Island. As a collection.
Letters Patent of Charles II Granting Lands in Kilkenny and Carlow to Sir John PonsonbyCharter on vellum, in English, with printed royal portrait, arms and emblems at the top, dated 20 May 21st Charles II (1669). 2 membranes, measuring 70 x 75 and 54 x 75 cm. Portion of the great seal attached. Sir John Ponsonby (1608-1678), a native of Haile in Cumberland, commanded a regiment of foot during Cromwell's subjugation of Ireland and was rewarded with a substantial grant of land. Adapting with ease to the Restoration, he was appointed one of the Commissioners for executing the Act of Settlement, and was MP for Kilkenny. This charter is a confirmation by Charles II of his grant from Cromwell.Ponsonby took as his second wife Elizabeth, daughter of Henry Lord Folliott (see charter of 1602 in this sale), and settled at Kildalton, which he renamed Bessborough in her honour. From them descend the Earls of Bessborough, who played a distinguished role in English and Irish life in the 18th and 19th centuries. As a m/ss, w.a.f. A rare and important document. (1)
O'Donovan Rossa FuneralPhotograph: Portrait of Members of the O'Donovan Rossa Funeral Committee, taken by Keogh Bros., approx. 28.5cms x 36.5cms (11 1/4" x 16 1/2"). In original oak frame, with key to the members present on reverse. The Funeral took place on 1st Aug. 1915. Extremely Rare. (1)
First Published Edition of MosadaYeats (W.B.). The Dublin University Review, issue for June 1886, containing the first printing of Yeats' poem Mosada at pp. 473-483. A little spotting at edges, part of last leaf torn (adverts) away with loss (not affecting Mosada), o.w. a fine copy as published. An offprint of 100 copies from this setting, with a portrait, was W.B. Yeats' first separate publication. A great rarity in either version, and a milestone in Irish literature. (1)Yeats later wrote in a copy, 'I wrote it when I was twenty-one & think rather sadly that when young men of that age send in like work I am not able to foresee his future or his talent.'
Rare First IssueKavanagh (Patrick) Self Portrait (Dolmen 1963). The very rare First Issue, with wrapper and f/p photograph by Philip Pocock showing Kavanagh in a flat cap and stained shirt, generally somewhat unkempt. Kavanagh objected to the photograph, and the edition was pulped. With a copy of the Second Issue (1964), still described as 'First Edition', containing new photographs by the publisher Liam Miller, showing a tidier poet. Both issues with very good wrappers. Also with the Second Edition (1975, reset, in wrappers), with the photographs in sepia. The first issue was never distributed, and only a handful of copies survived. A rare and attractive trio. The text is from a television programme broadcast by RTE in 1962. (3)
