oval, with engraved border, the portrait miniature painted en grisaille with two ladies in a landscape and on either side of a memorial obelisk decorated with gilt-metal and pearls, signed with initials WW, the back engraved with an inscription, the suspension loop with an associated further portrait miniature of a lady beside an urn85mm highFootnote: The inscription reads 'In Memory of Phillip Jacob who Died Dec'r 19 1785 Aged 30 at Montreal in America'.Condition report: There are various areas where small pearls were attached, particularly in two rows located below of obelisk. Some pearls have become detached and are loose within the frame. There are also some twisted gilt-metal wire borders, some of which are loose as is a further gilt ornament which originally sat at the top of the obelisk. There is overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use as well as some dirt within the frame. The further portrait miniature is not original to the piece and has a large crack to the ivory.
the circular blue guilloche enamel frame surrounds a portrait miniature depicting a Naval Officer in profile, Lt. Com. Arthar Scott Horace Pitt Rickards R.N., of Rock End, North Berwick Scotland, surmounted by an anchor bale set throughout with rose cut diamonds, in white claw settings, the reverse engraved 'Mizpah 26th March 1918', on a trace link chain; and a yellow oval locket engraved to the front with motto 'Hora et Semper' within a buckle and belt motif and hair compartment to the inside, engraved 'Ester wife of Edward Henry ob. 2nd Oct 1866', suspended from a box link chain, with a cockerel intaglio bloodstone seal attached, the family crest for 'Rickards'pendant length 4.1cm, chain length 76cm; locket length 3.0cm, seal width 1.0cmThe portrait miniature is sold with an original purchase receipt from John Moffat, 125 Princes Street, Edinburgh, dated July 23rd 1918.Lt. Com Arthur Scott Horace Pitt Rickards was a very keen golfer and Captain of the Glen Golf Club and also Coxswain of the North Berwick Lifeboat. The locket belonged to Edward Henry Rickards D.L. and the engraving refers to Ester his wife. Ester Burman was the daughter of Richard Burman of Shottery Warwickshire. Condition report: The pieces are in good condition commensurate with age. The chain fastens with a bolt ring catch. The shorter chain fastens with a clip fastening. The reverse of the miniature locket is stamped '15' and in our opinion would test as gold. The other pieces bear no hallmark nor stamp. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; caratweight 0.07, colour J/K/L, clarity I1/I2/I3. Gross weight 21.7 grams. CR made 09.03.22.

Surface slightly flattened from the restoration process. Minor rubbing to outer edges in general. Nick to surface revealing canvas no more than 0.5cm in length towards upper right hand corner. Varying sized craquelure but widely spaced prominent craquelure most evident throughout the flesh tones of her chest area and face which has undergone an amount of retouching and infilling. A patch of overpainting and retouching above and just right of sitter's head, mostly circular, and approx. 4cm in diameter. Slightly curved patch of retouching below the fringing at her left shoulder. Retouching to old stretcher shadow left hand side edge. Some general strengthening to shadows and defintion within draped curtain background and other finer patches of retouching and infilling elsewhere. Covered in a layer of dirt and discoloured varnish.

(oval), mounted, unframed Christies stencil S23WF versoIn an overall poor and somewhat distressed condition. The sheet is laid down. There are numerous damages/losses to the edges in general - the most notable being a demi-lune shaped loss towards lower left corner and is approx. 1cm at widest point. General staining and foxing across sheet which is more pronounced within the exposed area of the oval mount and notable patches to outer edges. Losses/damage/repairs at her right shoulder and across the chest area. Further surface dirt and possible abrasion as definition appears reduced etc... AF
~ Attributed to Henry Thompson RA (1773-1843)Portrait of a lady seated in the guise of Hebe with attendant Eagle and holding a jugWith Christie's stencil 546JH to stretcher, oil on canvas, 126.5cm by 100cmReline of some age, cleaned and revarnished. The surface is slighly flattened from the restoration process and the paint is thin in places. Some minor rubbing/abrasions to edges. Two white coloured slightly diagonal surface scuffs/scratches approx. centre from lower edge ending roughly 20cm away from lower edge (see images). Odd other further superficial surface scratch. Covered in a layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. The varnish has also deteriorated and has taken on a chalky quality mostly in and around the dark green areas of the lower background and is enhancing the fine stable craquelure. Other areas of more isolated and varying sized craquelure elsewhere especially within the areas of flesh of the figure. There is little to discern in the way of overpainting or retouching under a UV light excluding some isolated areas of infilling to old widely spaced craquelure and the odd very small retouch elsewhere. Otherwise in a reasonably good and stable state of preservation.

Covered in an amount of general surface dirt, foxing/mould spots. 2-3 small nicks to paper within background towards lower right hand corner, right of the sitter's left arm. Cluster of faint scratches? possibly instrinsic to paper? evident within background upper right hand corner. Small fleck of debris to the right hand side of her forehead. No evidence of cockling. Not examined out of the frame.

ENGLISH SCHOOL (EARLY 18TH CENTURY) PORTRAIT OF A LADY WITH A BOOK Oil on canvas 109.5 x 89cm (43 x 35 in.) Condition Report: The canvas has been relined. Surface dirt and craquelure throughout. Two tears in the upper left quadrant. Rubbing to the edges with some associated loss. An area of flaking to the upper right quadrant with associated loss. An area of retouching visible in natural light and white blemishes, possibly blooming varnish to the lower left quadrant. The original painting is at the British Army Base at Catterick.
