Pair of 19th Century blonde tortoiseshell lorgnettes, 18cm long closed, a 19th Century circular ivory box and cover having a carved shell cameo portrait of a Bacchanalian lady inset to the top and with a tortoiseshell liner, 5.25cm diameter and a late 19th Century faux tortoiseshell celluloid oval box, the hinged cover having a mirror to the inside, 9.25cm wide.
A pair of gilt brass framed portrait miniature photographs the hand coloured photographs within oval mounts and circular gilt brass frames with quiver, torch, swag and laurel crests and hinged stands, inscribed in black ink verso with the sitter`s names, Mr & Mrs Charles Anthony, dated 1841 and 1846, the frames 5.5in (14cm) high. A portrait miniature of a WW I British soldier of E. V. Buckley, the oval portrait finely painted in watercolour on ivorine, inscribed verso `Lambert Weston Brompton Sq. SW`, within a plain gold mount engraved `E.V.B 26th August 1916`, contained in the original leather case with red velvet interior, the portrait 4 x 3.3cm.
A LATE VICTORIAN SILVER CARD CASE of bracketed rectangular outline with foliate scroll engraving and monogrammed M B within a cartouche, Birmingham 1899, maker`s initials J G, 9 x 6.5cms together with a Cornish pewter snuff box by James Dixon & Sons, the cover embossed with a hunting scene and a green marble desk paperweight, rectangular, inset with a silver plated disc decorated in relief with a portrait of Napoleon 4.75 x 6 x 1.75cms (3)
Circle of John de Critz, Portrait of Sir Thomas Fane, Head and shoulders, wearing black costume, gold chains, white ruff and hat, Oil on panel, Dated 1576 and inscribed "aetatis suae 40" with a coat of arms upper left, 50cm x 40cm, Sir Thomas Fane (d. 1588) was the son of George Fane and Joan Waller. He married, firstly, Elizabeth Colepepper, daughter of Thomas Colepepper. He married, secondly, Mary Neville, Baroness Le Despenser, daughter of Sir Henry Neville, 4th Lord Abergavenny and Lady Francis Manners. Fane lived at Badsell, Kent, England. Circle of Gilbert Jackson, Portrait of Richard Luther, Three quarter length, wearing a grey coat and white linen collar and holding a book in his right hand, Oil on canvas, Extenisvely inscribed with memorial and dated Anno Domni 1639, Aetatis 88 upper right, 108cm x 93cm. Provenance: Wormsley Park, Literature: (unpublished) Catalogue of The Collection of Pictures & Drawings at Wormsley, The Property of F. W. Fane as "Richard Luther Esq. of Myles Kelvedon near Ongar, Essex, painted 1639 at the age of 88 by Cornelius Janssen". . This is a posthumous portrait of Richard Luther (c. 1550-1639), of Kelvedon Hatch, Essex. Richard Luther held the estate of Old Englands, or Inglondes, Little Warley, in 1589. The arms (upper left) were granted in 1616 to one Luther of Myles`s, Essex and said to be allied to a Martin Luther. The granting King of Arms and Mr Luther agreed on buckles at the top of the shield, and by heraldic rules these should be red, black, blue, purple or green. The King of Arms ordained on this occasion they should be blue, in this portrait the buckles appear to be painted in gold, which would be down to the artist`s decision Visit www.dnfa.com for condition reports
Follower of Robert Walker, Portrait of a gentleman, traditionally identified as Adrian Scrope, Half length, wearing armour, Oil on canvas, 72cm x 59cm. Provenance: Wormsley Park, Literature: (unpublished) Catalogue of The Collection of Pictures & Drawings at Wormsley, The Property of F. W. Fane as "Coll. Adrian Scrope, painted by Robert Walker". . Colonel Adrian Scrope (1599-1660) of Wormsley, Oxfordshire. Adrian was the twenty-seventh of the fifty-nine Commissioners who signed the Death Warrant of King Charles in January 1649, at the end of the civil war. At the restoration of Charles II in 1660 all the men responsible for the death of Charles I were in grave danger. Scrope was one of those arrested, tried and found guilty and suffered the penalty for high treason. He was hanged, drawn and quartered around 13th October 1660.
