Prince Albert Victor`s Vis Prince Albert`s Personal Album containing 24 albumen prints" approx. 20 x 27cm. and smaller printed captions pasted below many numbered in the negative mounted on single sides of card leaves contemporary half roan rubbed gilt title (as above) with credit to Dayal on upper cover front free endpaper inscribed in ink `For His Royal Highness Prince Albert Victor with Nawab Sir Asman Jah`s compt:s. 28th March 1890` oblong folio 1889. See condition report for full list of captions. ***Nawab Sir Asman was the Prime Minister of Hyderabad state between 1887 and 1894.The album includes a portrait of the Nizam the Nizam and the Prince together Shikar party Asmangurh Saraoonagar Khanabagh (3) Delhi gate (1) Bushir-bagh palace and interiors (6) and tent pegging at Purana Haveli (2)..
Moreau Brothers mali and guinee" c.1895 Two volumes ninety-seven albumen prints 12x16cm (5x6in.) numbered index with titles in manuscript in French and corresponding numbers against photographs contemporary half-calf over green boards. These albums are dedicated to General Gustave Borgnis-Desbordes the colonial head of Mali from 6 September 1880 until 3 September 1883 with a hand written inscription in French in ink on the inside cover of both albums. An interesting set of albums showing architectural details of towns in Mali and Guinee. Mainly topographical however there are some portrait studies. Towns shown and listed in index are Segou Koniakary Moro Diena Kayes and a number of unidentified locations in Western Africa.
Pierre Gilliard (1879-1962) duchesses olga & a Gelatin silver print" original letter address label and book. The photograph is annotated in pencil on verso in unknown hand `Duchesses Olga & Anastasia` 103x708mm. Includes the original letter with which it was was posted to Hugh C. M. Pitts Esq from General Dietrichs/Deytrikh. Dieterichs was one of Admiral Kolchak`s principal aides who was in possession of the personal effects of the Imperial Family. The photograph had originally been posted care of Princess Marina at Kensington Palace. Also present is the original address label stamped "Kensington Palace Office of Princess Marina". Princess Marina was daughter of the Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia a granddaughter of Tsar Alexander II of Russia. The letter is on headed paper with the typed address of `15a Sussex Mansions Old Brompton Rd SW7` written to Mr Pitts from N. Deytrikh. It reads "It is a very great pleasure to me to be able to send you the last snapshot of the Eldest Olga & the youngest Anastasia Grandes Duchesses shortly before the greatest tragedy of our time...". Addressed to "Hugh C. M. Pitts Rose Cottage White Cross Zeals Warminster Wiltshire". Includes the book `Tutor to the Tsarevich An intimate portrait of the last days of the Russian Imperial Family` compiled from the papers of Charles Sydney Gibbes by J.C. Trewin. ***The photograph is similar to the original negatives and captions made by Pierre Gilliard (1879-1962) dated 1914-1915 in his diaries held in the collections of Musée de l`Elysée Switzerland. The Swiss Pierre Gilliard was devoted to the Imperial family and in 1905 was asked to tutor the Grand Duchesses Olga Tatiana and later Anastasia and Olga Nikolaïevna. In 1912 he become the private tutor of Alexis Nicolaïevitch the tsarevitch. After the Bolshevik Revolution of February 1917 he followed them into exile at Tsarkoïe-Seloand Tobolsk then Ekaterinburg where he was prevented from following them further to Ekaterinburg. After the murder of the family on the night of 17th July 1918 Gilliard remained until the White Army arrived and then stayed behind for three years after the family`s death assisting Nikolai Sokolov with the investigations. In 1921 Gilliard married in Switzerland Aleksandra "Shura" Tegleva who had served as nanny to the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna. His memoirs `Thirteen Years at the Russian Court` reveal intimate reports of the lives of the last Imperial Family and include a similar photograph to this taken outside the house of a railway worker near Mohilev the headquarters of the Russian Army during the war 1914-1918.

As we were about to begin she received a phone call from the hospital to say that Robert Mapplethorpe was about to die and wanted to see her. She had to leave immediately but there was a delay while the taxi arrived. She came back and said she would stand for her portrait until it came` - Andrew Catlin.
A LATE VICTORIAN PORTRAIT MINIATURE of General Sir George White VC, GCB by Harry C Lintott, painted on ivory, signed with monogram, 2 3/4" high (oval), exhibited at the Royal Academy Watercolour Room in May 1900, together with an unsigned portrait on porcelain of his wife, 3" high. (See Illustration). Field Marshal Sir George Stuart White VC, GCB, OM, GCSI, GCMG, GCIE, GCVO was an Officer of the British Army who won the Victorian Cross aged 44 on 6th October 1879 at Charasiah, Afghanistan, where he single handed ran towards and killed the leader of the enemy, the rest of whom subsequently fled, he was commander of the garrison at the siege of Ladysmith in 1899-1900 and there is a statue of him at Portland Place in London.
A QUANTITY OF FIRST AND SECOND WORLD WAR MEDALS and related ephemera including a Great War and 14/18 medals awarded to L. Z. 640 8 W. J. W. Phelps. Act. L. S. R. N. V. R., a further group of Second World War medals awarded to W. Phelps consisting of the 39/45 War Medal, 39/45 Star and the France and Germany Star complete with printed list and posting box, an Air Force diary from 1942 which belonged to K. W. Clark service number 1602946, the diary partly filled in, including a flying log book from March to June of that year and further details, together with uniform wings, a portrait of a young woman in a frame, a Royal Army Service corps compact etc.
