19th century miniature portrait of a naval officer, Capt Jemmet Mainwaring of the frigate Babet which foundered in 1801 Babet was built at Le Havre, one of a class of 20-gun corvettes in the French navy. She was captured by the British in 1794, during the French Revolutionary Wars and spent her remaining years as a ship of the Royal Navy. Under the command of Captain Jemmett Mainwairing, she took part in the Anglo-Russian Invasion of Holland in 1799. She was lost at sea near Jamaica having sailed from Martinique in 1801the picture is with a sealed back, unable to take picture out, looks in good condition, colour good, no obvious signs of damage, looks ok, all original.

WW1 Officers Killed in Action Memorial Book/Archive: To Lt George Godfrey Whitley Leary 10th Gloucestershire Regiment, Killed in Action 25th September 1915 Battle of Loos. The Memorial book was compiled by his parents and young widow and contains the official telegrams informing them of his death from the King and Queen and the War Office, a portrait photograph of him in uniform and another of soldiers marching- his Battalion, and then 64 letters from fellow officers and men detailing the action he fell in and details of where he was buried in a large grave with other officers and a map telling the position of the grave. The Book has an impressive hand painted front cover on Vellum together with a title page. Lieut Leary was the son of Dr E Leary of Alfreton Derbyshire and educated at Rapton and Jesus College Cambridge and was married to Edith Ball on 12th April 1915 at Cheltenham. The 10th Gloucestershire Regt landed in France 8th August 1915 only 4 Months after his wedding and he died 49 day after he landed.
