A 19th Century Miniature Bust Portrait of a Lady, signed T Carlyle, dated 1833, 7.5cm by 6cm, in an oval frame; and A Half Length Portrait of a Girl, on a tin panel (2) Loose miniature - painted on tin. Other - unknown medium. Tin example bent. Both paintworks seem relatively good. Damage to gilt frame
A Cameo Brooch, the oval shell carved with classical figures, in a yellow millegrain frame, measures 3.7cm by 4.9cm; and A Cameo Brooch, an oval sardonyx base with an applied portrait of a bearded gentleman, in a plain frame, measures 4.9cm by 5.7cm (2) Both pieces are in reasonable condition. Some minor scuffs and damages. Both fasten with pin and hook catches. Neither bear a hallmark, nor stamp, but in our opinion the first would test as gold. Gross weight 39.8 grams. A late 18th century fortune telling `Oracle` fan, the leaf engraved and hand coloured with a wheel of fortune, with pin pricks from use, beneath two winged figures in clouds above, with explanations and questions to ask the Oracle, verso with ten Greek/Roman portrait medallions, each above a statement of fortune, with pierced and carved bone bats, some tears throughout and break to one outer bat, 45cm open
(SH) John Glashan (1927-1999), FACADE OF A CLASSICAL BUILDING Signed l.r., and extensively inscribed, pen and ink and grey wash 42 x 37cm Commissioned by Hugh Johnson for the Queen Magazine in 1968. Born in Glasgow in 1927, the son of portrait painter Archibald A. McGlashan. He dropped the `Mc` from his name and began a his career as a cartoonist. His first work appeared in Lilliput in 1959, and from the 1960s to the 1990s Glashan regularly featured in newspapers and magazines including Private Eye and The Spectator. Between 1978-1981 his `Genius` strip ran in The Observer magazine. John Glashan exhibited at The Cartoon Gallery, the Fine Art Society and The Francis Kyle Gallery.
