One depicts local Melbourne M.P., Mac Holten, clipping a 'safety cord' to the cap of West Indian Joe Solomon in the dressing room at Melbourne. Press cutting to verso describes 'A Melbourne woman sent the cord to Mr Holten to be given to Solomon, who lost his wicket in a Test when his cap fell and dislodged the bails'. A Worcester cabbage leaf jug, circa 1770-90, with mask spout and double-scroll handle, the outside moulded with overlapping leaves, printed in blue with the 'Three Flowers' pattern, 23.5cm high (minor restoration to handle) together with a late 18th Century commemorative prattware pearlware jug, c. 1795, one side has a moulded and painted portrait of the Duke of York and the other side has the Royal Sufferers. 16.5 cm tall. R50815S, for 2008, 29 1/2in. nitro barrels with 6mm ventilated matt top-rib, 3in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, hold-open toplever, automatic safety with integral barrel selector switch, the action, decorative sideplates and furniture profusely engraved with bold scrolling acanthus and floral motifs, the left side with scenes of woodcock, the right with pheasant, the toplever with a further woodcock and the underside with the portrait of a retriever, the triggerguard with the head of a pheasant, the fore-end with ornate finial engraved with a duck in flight, the triggerplate signed 'C. Tomasoni', grey finish, 14 7/8in. highly-figured pistolgrip stock (cast on for the left shoulder, small crack at hand) including wooden buttplate, weight 6lb. 7oz., in a universal case.
