An 18th century Dutch brass and copper tobacco box, c.1760, of rectangular form with curved ends and hinged lid, the top and base embossed with portrait of King Frederick the Great of Prussia, date 1757, and with panels of the battles he had won, together with an ovoid form copper tobacco box, of similar date, decorated with engraved figural panels to top and base. 16th century English School, Head of Christ, inscribed extensively (see notes), oil on panel, 9¾in x 7¾in (24.75cm x 19.75cm), framed. The inscription reads: This present figure is the symylytude of Jesus our saviour imprinted in amyrald by the predecessors of the great Turk and sent unto the Bishop of Rom named Innocent the VIII for a token by the great Turk for to redeme his Brother that was taken prisoner Note : This depiction of Jesus in profile is derived from an image engraved on the Emerald Vernicle in the collection of the Vatican. Around 1429, Sultan Bajazet 11 of Constantinople, The Great Turk, gave the emerald, carved with the profile of Jesus, to Pope Innocent VIII. Bajazet proffered the emerald to ensure that his brother would remain in Papal custody, thus securing his own unhindered accession to the throne. The inscription below the portrait relates to this story, although the painter has changed the intention behind the gift
19th century School, Portrait miniature of a young man in black jacket and check waistcoat, 4½in x 3½in (11.5cm x 9cm) and a companion miniature of a woman in black dress, lace bonnet and collar, 5in x 3¾in (12.5cm x 9.5cm), in ornate gilt-wood frames (2) According to family tradition the portraits represent the 6th Earl or 6th Duke of Gordon and his wife.
