Noel N Carter [fl.1820-30s]-A miniature portrait of Agnes Nixon [1804-1890], daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth Nixon, nee Paley,: bust-length, with long dark hair tied high and ringlets, brown eyes and wearing a white satin dress, pale blue shawl and tight corset, sky background, on ivory, oval, 6.5cm, together with a miniature portrait of a young man thought to be Richard Hey, married to Agnes Nixon 1829, by a different hand, in ornate 'ormolu' frames. [2]* Notes Richard Hey [d.1860] was one of the original 300 Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons. He married Agnes Nixon in 1829 and became Surgeon to the York County Hospital, to the Institute for The Blind and the Female Penitentiary.

After Sir Anthony Van Dyck [late 17th Century, English School]-Charles I (1600-1649) in three positions:-oil on canvas84 x 110cm.* Notes. The original triple portrait had an unusual function. In 1636 Charles I had the painting despatched to Rome to the sculptor Bernini [1598-1680] where it was to assist in the making of a marble bust, the three viewpoints helping the sculptor to create a three-dimensional likeness.

An important early 19th Century Paris porcelain plaque painted with a half length portrait of the Empress Josephine, after Ferdinand Paul Louis Quajila (1780-1853), the Empress with white dress, pearl earrings and necklace, and double tiara, before an Imperial crown, with drapery and column to the background, with title "Josephine, Imperatrice", and signed "M. fre de Dihl a Paris", panel 8.5ins x 5.5ins, in ebonised frame with gilt metal inner slip Provenance: 19th Century ink written paper label to verso - "The Empress Josephine" on porcelain or Dihl, China purchased at Christie's and Co's, Kings Street St. James, 18th December 1869", a paper label to verso states "Belonged to Cyril Warren Lee Pemberton. Purchased by his father Charles Davies Pemberton". Note: The source for this portrait appears to be a miniature on ivory by Ferdinand Quajila (1780-1853) now in the Musee Jacquemart-Andre, Paris. Similar Dihl porcelain plaque is in the collection of the Chateau De Malmaison, inventory number, M.M.70.12.1. Another example of the miniature portrait was sold at Christie's on 27th-28th November 2012, lot 329 A Dihl cup and stand painted the same portrait was sold at Sotheby's on 28th March 2017, lot 429.
