K., within a fluted bezel and 16 bead surround and with rose-cut diamond scroll settings and detachable pendant fitting, glazed panel back, stamped makers mark N & C, 25g gross, fitted case. GUATEMALA Design Proofs: Two complete sheets of 100 of the one Peso value in black and dark blue, showing the portrait of Manuel Estrada Cabrera believed to date from late 1906 or early 1907, the sheets both with the imprint "WATERLOW BROTHERS & LAYTON, LIMd, BIRCHIN LANE, LONDRES, INGLATERRA" twice at top and foot and once on each side, a few peripheral faults but interesting items which are mentioned on pages 64/65 in the 'Guatemala Fiscal Handbook' by J.C. Andrews

Al verso della carta b4 ritratto del cardinale Scipione Gonzaga inciso su rame, mentre è fuori segnatura la tavola tra le carte Zz2 e Zz3, anch'essa incisa e recante l'epigrafe con ritratto dell'autore e le armi della famiglia Gonzaga. Eleganti capilettera e testatine incise su rame. Splendido esemplare in perfetto stato di conservazione. Legatura coeva in pergamena su piatti in cartone, dorso a cinque nervi con titolo impresso al secondo scomparto su tassello dipinto, i rimanenti decorati da ferri dorati. Tagli spruzzati in rosso. Annotazione manoscritta di antica collocazione vergata al contropiatto anteriore.Splendido esemplare, eccezionalmente impresso su carta azzurra, della prima edizione dei Commentarii di Scipione Gonzaga (1542-1593), autoprofilo redatto in latino dal cardinale e dotto letterato nel 1579 , ma dato alla luce solo nel 1791. La presente stampa romana, di grande eleganza, è corredata da un quarto libro, scritto in continuazione all'opera del Gonzaga dall'ex gesuita Giuseppe Mariotti. Edges speckled red. An early shelfmark annotated on the front pastedown.Fine copy, exceptionally printed on blue paper, of the first edition of the Commentarii by Scipione Gonzaga (1542-1593). The work was composed in 1579, but appeared in print only in 1791. The Roman edition is supplemented with a fourth book, compiled by the former Jesuite Giuseppe Mariotti, and intended as a continuation of Gonzaga's treatise. Another copy printed on blue paper is preserved in the Library of University of Illinois.
