Sir Charles Napier: an unusual porcelaineaous mug printed in black with a named portrait inscribed ‘Commander-in-Chief of the Baltic Fleet’ gilt lining, fine hairline crack, circa 1855* Born in 1786 Napier went to sea at the age of 13 receiving his first command in 1808. He served in the Peninsular and American wars. He commanded the loyalist Portuguese fleet and was appointed Commander of the Baltic Fleet in the Crimean War. He twice sat in parliament and died in 1860.
