Hubert Williams (1905-1989), Hubert Williams was a portrait, landscape and architectural painter, etcher and illustrator. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools where he was awarded the Landseer Scholarship for 1928, also attending the St Martins School of Art and the LCC Schools. He exhibited widely and was a member of the Pastel Group and the Society of Graphic Artists. THE MAJOR GEORGE CUNNINGHAM 2ND ROHILLA CAVALRY EAST INDIA COMPANY PRESENTATION SWORD, 73cm sharply curved clipped back T-section blade, the mameluke style white metal mounted hilt with lion's mask and mane crossguard with claw form quillons, two-piece riveted horn grips, the white metal back and fore strap decorated with geometric designs, contained in its white metal mounted leather wrapped scabbard, the upper mount with the presentation panel April 21st BAREILLY 1816. Major George Cunningham served with the 7th Bengal Native Infantry and Commanded the 2nd Rohilla Cavalry during the Bareilly Uprising of 1816. Cunningham retired in 1821 and died in 1838. This sword is famously depicted at the side of the recipient in the Portrait by James Howe which is now with the National Army Museum and hangs at Sandhurst. The image of Major George Cunningham reproduced in this catalogue is credited to the National Army Museum.

General Sir Frederick Stovin G.C.B., K.C.M.G. (1783-1865) fought in the Napoleonic wars and was appointed Groom in Waiting to Queen Victoria in 1837. In 1855 he accompanied Prince Alfred to Geneva to supervise his studies there. He died in Kensington Palace in 1865.
