Attributed to Thomas Hickey, 1741-1824, Portrait of Walker Dawson Fawcett, oil on canvas, 75x62.5cm.; 29.5x24.5in. The sitter was the younger son of General Sir William Fawcett (1727-1804) of Shibden Hall, Yorkshire. He was admitted to the Honourable East India Company in 1780 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1781. By 1813 he had reached the rank of Major-General. He served in the 2nd Regiment of Bengal Native Cavalry until he transferred to the 6th Regiment in 1802.
