Henry Bone RA (1755-1834) GEORGE IV AS PRINCE REGENT bust portrait, wearing Field Marshall`s scarlet uniform with gold epaulette, collar and tied black stock, the Order of the Fleece around his neck and the breast star of the Order of the Garter, St Andrew, Black Eagle and Holy Spirit pinned to his breast enamel on gold in a gold and enamel frame inscribed on the reverse `His Majesty George 4, London April 1830, Painted by H Bone RA enamel painter to the King and the late Duke of York after the original picture by Sir Thos Lawrence P.R.A.` oval, 3.5cm x 2.75cm (1.25" x 1") Note: based on Sir Thomas Lawrence`s portrait of 1814, Bone produced several versions of the present work over some years. George IV was obviously very fond of them, as he gave many to his friends, courtiers and mistresses and also to Lady Conynham and his niece Princess Victoria in 1826. The Royal Collection boasts several of these enamels of varying sizes by Bone. Provenance: Mr & Mrs Tom Southern Collection Literature: Richard Walker, Miniatures in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen, the 18th and 19th Centuries, 1992, pp.281-284, illustrations 757-765
FRANK MOSS BENNETT (1874-1953) Oil on canvas after John Hoppner (1758-1810), Portrait of the Sackville children, 70" x 56", signed and dated 1919, framed. Provenance: Lady Victoria Sackville-West commissioned FM Bennett to paint this copy of her favourite painting in May 1919, when she left Knole with Sir Edwin Lutyens to live in Brighton following her divorce. The original was sold to the Metropolitan museum in New York, where it still hangs today. This painting has come directly from the family estate, and until recently was hanging in the family home at Sissinghurst Castle, Kent. This 18th century gilt frame is probably the original from the Hoppner painting, retained when it was sold to the Met.
