Attributed to Thomas Murray (1663 - 1734), oil on canvas, a portrait of a lady in red and blue, a member of the Chesshyre family, unsigned, 51ins x 45.5ins in a carved gilt frameRe-lined and has received some restoration in way of paint to the front. The best way to show this is by way of photographs. Mainly noticeable to the right of sitters face and around hands. There seems to be no overpainting to the face but some to edges of hands.I think the painting would benefit from cleaning and some refining of paintwork in places (sympathetically approached). Frame in my opinion is 18th Century but I cannot see it as 17th Century, some new blocks on corners but does retain original hangers. Retains original gilding with one repair to the inside edge (slip) of right hand side of frame.
