This example of Parmigiano's masterful draughtsmanship was sold at Christie's New York in 2003. Le-Tan was fascinated by the precise pen strokes and peculiarity of the young man's features, which reflect similar techniques and expressions in his own drawings. The portrait we are offering in this sale is an orignal work by Le-Tan after Parmigianino, framed in one of the small gold frames amongst his eclectic collection hung on the walls of his appartment.Another version of this drawing, now in the collection of the Musée Fabre de Montpellier, was drawn directly on the picture, taken from the Christie's catalogue. A pair of 19th century Charenton porcelain portrait figures after Thomas Gainsborough, portraying the Duchess of Devonshire and the 'Blue Boy'. Each painted in tones of blue, with naturalistic bases heightened with gilt and armorial crests 'Cavendo Tutus' (Safe by Caution) and Nobilitatas virtus non stemma character' (Virtue not pedigree, is the mark of nobility). Both bearing underglaze blue mark to the base, approx 29.5 cms and 27 cms respectively.
