Provenance: By family descent. The sitter is the vendor’s great grandmother. Footnote: The sitter’s husband, William Lawson Peacock (circa 1850-1925) is thought to have had a Canadian connection. It is believed he was a picture dealer, being at one time a director of the French Gallery in Pall Mall and having galleries in Duke Street, Bond Street and Edinburgh. There were four daughters by their marriage; May, Ethel, Helen and Winifred.
