A George III Wedgwood Gold-Mounted Jasperware Scent-Bottle, Etruria, Circa 1780, circular, one side with a portrait bust of William, Prince of Orange (1748-1806) and the other of Princess Wilhelmina of Prussia (1751-1820), based on the Tassie glass-paste reliefs, each within floral swags, with gold screw cap, in fitted red leather case, the case 8cm high There would seem to have been two versions of this scent-bottle produced, ones like the present example and another in the collection of the British Museum (museum number 1887,0307,I.740), with swag borders and another with a plain stiff leaf border, for example one in the Royal Collection (RCIN 45805) and another in the Victoria and Albert museum (accession number 414:1291/ to B-1885) . There are some hairline cracks to the fluted collar and other typical minor cracks and firing flaws. The body fits snuggly into the leather case, though there is some extra space around the stopper. Other examples have a flat finial on the top of the finial. This is lacking on the present example, though there is no sign that it would ever have had one. There are some scuffs and marks to the case.
