Clark commanded the ship from 28 January 1942 to 1 October 1944, and took part in the following operations Operation Ironclad (the battle of Madagascar), landing elements at Diego Suarez on 5 May 1942 (M.I.D.). Operation Torch (the allied invasion of of North Africa), landing United States Army Rangers of the 1st Battalion on the Algerian coast on 8 November 1942. The ship was also attacked by five Luftwaffe aircraft on 14 November whilst ferrying troops from Oran to Algiers (D.S.C.). Operations Husky and Avalanche , on the 10 July 1943, the ship disembarked troops of the British 8th Army in Sicily for Operation Husky . She subsequently took part in Operation Avalanche , landing troops on 9 September 1943 at Salerno on the Italian mainland. Operation Neptune , the amphibious operation that launched Operation Overlord , the allied invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944. The ship disembarked troops of the 9th brigade of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division on Juno Beach Liberation of the Channel Islands, the ship landed British troops on Jersey on 11 May 1945 and provided additional reinforcements on 18 May.

Morgan, Captain 17th Lancers, Camp nr Balaclava, 7 December 1854, to Lieutenant General the Earl of Lucan, Commander Cavalry Division, 'In consequence of another Captain now present with Regiment I have the honor to request that you will forward this, the renewal of my application for leave of absence to return to England the nature of my affairs being such as to warrant an extension being made in my favour', one page, with ensuing notes written vertically to inner upper margin including one believed to be in the Earl of Cardigan's hand, 'Dec 11th Morgan 17th Lancers leave refused', the verso with Lucan's autograph letter signed, Cavalry Camp, HQ, 10 December 1854, to the Adjutant General, sending the application concerning Captain Morgan with a note that 'This officer's resignation of his commission is already in England' and wondering whether Morgan may be granted this favour under the circumstances, the full reply written in the second column by Brigadier J.B. Estcourt, 11 December 1854 reporting that the commander 'cannot sanction the application in favour of Captain Morgan', old adhesion remains to inner margin of verso, folio (32.5 x 20 cm), together with a Christmas and New Year card 1907/1908 from Lord Tredegar with photogravure portrait, dampstained and split and separated along spine, slim 4to (Qty: 2)NOTESGodfrey Charles Morgan, 1st Viscount Tredegar (1831-1913) was 22 when the Crimean War broke out. He held the rank of Captain in the 17th Lancers and accompanied his famous regiment. On 25 October 1854 he was in command of a section of the Light Brigade that rode into the 'Valley of Death' at the battle of Balaclava, which he survived. The Charge was led by Lord Cardigan (1797-1868), his characteristic arrogance seemingly reflected in this refusal to grant leave to Captain Morgan so soon after the battle.

9ct Gold Impressive and Good Quality Oval Shaped Portrait Cameo - the ornate oval shaped 9ct gold mount with applied gold portrait bust of a young lady, her hair set with diamonds on black agate ground to centre of the cameo. The cameo attached to a heavy and good quality 9ct gold belcher chain of 23 inches - 57.5 cm in length. The cameo of 2 inches - 5 cm high. Total weight 76.9 grams. Both pieces are in excellent condition with no issues.
