Stackhouse (John) Nereis britannica; containing al titles in English and Latin each with different coloured vignette portrait 24 coloured plates of which 18 are hand-coloured engravings and 6 are watercolours with no engraved background contemporary russia gilt rather badly worn rebacked folio [Henrey 1382] Bath Hazard 1801. *** The plates of the appendix (6 watercolours one with faint etched background) were left out of the work as published so as to keep the price down. “I shall leave Drawings with the Lady who has coloured the plates...sets to bind up with the work will be ready to be delivered on application to the publisher.” footnote on p. xxv. It must be admitted that most people took advantage of this and copies without the appendix are much rarer than those with it.

In the early 1920s, she attended the Atelier de la Palette in Paris, where Dismorr had been a student from 1910 until 1912
Swiss School (18th Century) Portrait of Captain Johann Jakob Fasch inscribed on the reverse “Johann Jakob Fasch, Capitaine Fasch, 1816” oil on canvas 50 x 38cm (19.5 x 14.82in) Provenance: From a Norfolk country house Johann Jakob Fasch was born in Basel, Switzerland, in 1752. Son of Johann Rudolf Fasch, the town Mayor, as a boy he attended the Basel Gymnasium and went on to become a student of Philosophy, pursuing studies in Basel, Lausanne and Geneva. From 1774 to 1776, he worked as a tutor to the former mayor, Peter Burckhardt and, shortly afterwards, married Maria Catharine Schnell (1778). From 1776 until his death in 1832, Fasch pursued ministerial work, and eventually became a priest at Basel’s Church of St Theodore. Alongside his ministerial work, he continued to teach and, from 1819 to 1822, he held a position at the University of Basel. Fasch fought in the French Revolution (1789-99) and was engaged in the work of the Enlightenment. He published many sermons over his lifetime and was interested in Oriental languages
Attributed to William Hoare of Bath (British, 1706-1799) Portrait of William Hanbury Esq (1704-1768) of Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire inscribed on the reverse “William Hanbury of Kelmarsh, 1760”oil on canvas 75 x 62cm (29.25 x 24.18in) William Hanbury was the antiquarian owner and builder of Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire. “There is nothing more that could be added to the happiness I enjoy” wrote owner William Hanbury as he watched the roof going on his new Palladian style mansion in the early 1730s. James Gibbs, the virtuoso architect of the day, and builder, Francis Smith of Warwick, had been instructed to replace the former Jacobean hall with something more modern. It is not certain that Smith of Warwick built the whole house, as only small bills exist for “finishing off”. Thomas Hanbury (1669-1722), William’s father, had restored the family fortunes as his own father, John Hanbury, had practically ruined the estate by his extravagant gambling, fleeing to the Low Country to escape his debts, leaving his wife and son to cope. William Hanbury was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and had a splendid library. He edited the Rothwell Hundred Chapter of Bridge’s History of Northamptonshire. It is said that Hanbury rose from his sickbed to join the Northamptonshire Regiment to suppress the 1745 Jacobite rebellion. An alternative attribution for the portrait has been suggested as Robert Edge Pine (1730-1788)
