circa 1883: Police photographs of `Invincibles` Michael Fagan and Laurence Hanlon A pair of contemporary police photographs of Irish National Invincibles"" Michael Fagan and Laurence Hanlon. Both with a contemporary note giving each sitter`s name below their portrait. Both with notes on the reverse in indelible pencil, Hanlon`s stating ""one of the 4"" and Fagan`s ""In the cab supposed to have murdered Mrs. Smythe"". The latter certainly appears to be connected to the Westmeath, Barbavilla murder of Maria Smythe who had been killed in an attempt to assassinate her brother-in-law William Barlow Smythe a landlord. It was believed that Fagan along with Daniel Curley and Thomas Caffrey had formed an assassination committee to organise the attempt on Smythe`s life."" 4.25 by 2.5in., 10.625 by 6.25cm.

McCormack mentions purchasing a Lavery which he is donating to the Municipal Gallery and offering a prize of £50 for the ""best painting of the year"". CHIEN- YING CHANG (1913 - 2004) Unframed, mounted, signed, Chinese watercolour and wash on paper, titled on label verso, `Bird rests on bamboo`. After coming to England in 1946, Chien- Ying Chang and her husband Chung- Wei Fei decided not to return to their homeland China, avoiding the new regime of Mao Tse Tung`s. Befriending artist Stanley Spencer, Mrs Wei, painted his portrait and he completed three of her, forming a lifelong friendship. 26.5cm x 31cm. Provenance: Purchased from The Mansard Gallery, London, in 1949; receipt enclosed in lot.

After ELSIABETH - LOUISE VIGEE LEBRUN (1755 - 1842) Oval framed, 19th Century, oil on board, bust length portrait, after Lebrun`s self portrait of 1790, which depicts the artist at work with easel and paintbrushes. Inscribed verso, `Woodmanton Manor`. There are at least three known originals of this work, one hanging in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, with Marie Antoinette believed to be depicted on the sitters canvas, another located at Ickworth House, Suffolk, showing the artists`s daughter, Julie forming on the canvas, and the third at Walford Museum, Hertfordshire, showing Marie Antoinette also, 21cm x 16.5cm.

Framed, unsigned, half length portrait of Reverend John Edmond Coulson (1825 - 1915) on ivorene, in white shirt, dark jacket and waistcoat with blue tie, inscribed on label verso, `John Edmond Coulson M. A., Student of Christ Church, Oxford, Youngest Son of John Coulson Esq. of Clifton Wood, Done by Fisher and sent to the Royal Academy 1854- married in 1858 to Rhoda May Baird.` Period articles show Rhoda (1834 - 1913) was the eldest daughter of the late Captain Baird, of the 15th King’s Hussars. German painter Hermann Winterhalter (1808 - 1891) also painted the Revd. Coulson, his wife and their child although the location of this work is unknown.
