A 19th century ivory and steel desk-seal, the matrix set with a coat of arms and on a turned ivory handle, 8.5cm; one other similar example with agate seal, carved in relief with a profile portrait of a centurions head; and one other agate and brass example (3) Condition Report / Extra Information Agate example - no apparent faults. Middle example - hairline, top of handle with scratch marks. Right hand example - some discolouring and staining, otherwise no faults.
W R Waters - Portrait of a seated child upon a cushion wearing a lace gown, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left 1864, 74 x 61.5cm Condition Report / Extra Information Original canvas and stretcher. Canvas good. Paint good and stable. Scratch loss near foot. Some craquelure to central flowers and basket handle. Small paint losses and amateur touching-in to cheek and left hand ring-finger. Otherwise appears original and in restored frame with minor losses to upper right and some drying out cracks.
ATTRIB. FRIEDRICH VON AMERLING, AUSTRIAN OIL ON CANVAS, MID 19TH C., 24" X 20", COUNTESS JULIA HUNYADY DE KETHELY: Attributed to Friedrich von Amerling [Austrian, 1803-1887], a bust-length portrait of a young woman in a diaphanous dress with a daisy at the center. No apparent signature, in a gilt wood and gesso frame of the period with hand-written note in German, dated December 1929, on the reverse [see additional photo], identifying the sitter as Countess Julia Hunyady de Kethely [1831-1919], a Hungarian noblewoman and the Princess consort of Serbia as the wife of Mihailo Obrenovic III; she later married Duke Karl von Arenberg, Prince von Recklinghausen, after Obrenovic's assassination in 1868.
18TH.C. OIL ON CANVAS, 24" X 20", PORTRAIT OF BRITISH NAVAL OFFICER: 24" x 20" is canvas size only. Purchased by William Campbell Swayze [born Oct 8, 1887] and Elsie M. Ramsey [b. 1895] in 1957 from William Banks of Monroe, Mich. Portrait is similar to portrait of General Thomas Bligh by Thomas Gainsborough in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. On back of canvas is a paper depicting Le Chateau des Iris in Bordeaux, France where painting hung before being brought to America, Copy of letter in file from G. Grant Muller of H. Brammer [1943] attributing work to Thomas Gainsborough.

LENKIEWICZ (1941-2002) "No. 24 Sexual Behaviour Project 16, Lovers, Marie (Mark) & Sara, 1984", portrait study of a couple, one sitting on the lap of the other, oil on canvas, signed x 3 verso and titled x 2, 149 cm x 93 cm (ARR) (Provenance: This painting was acquired by the vendor directly from the artist in lieu of a debt owed for her payment of rates owed to The City of Plymouth by the artist, and is sold together with a copy of the Distress Warrant No'd. 47/2061/01 dated 31 July 86. The piece depicts two lovers Sara and Marie. Marie who became Mark after allegedly being the first to undertake a sex change operation from female to male) CONDITION REPORTS General wear and scuffs,and some scrapes. Some wear and scuffs to lower edge/lower section of picture. The picture is framed and under glass. Some small areas of dirt and splashes. There is a vertical join to the canvas which runs from the top to the bottom of the picture, which runs through the face of the figure on the right.
