WW1 Royal Flying Corps Items to lieutenant A.H Whitford-Hawkey RFC later of the RAF 43rd Sqdn sadly shot down and killed on 9th May 1918 aged only 18 (he lied about his age and volunteered when he had just turned 17), includes miniature portrait of him in his uniform a picture of him just before joining up, a amazing first hand account of the action that he was killed in by one of his friends, one of his RFC collar dogs, a Christmas card from him to his family in Cornwall, a copy of the ‘Arras Memorial’ names register with his name in (page 1384), the actual telegram informing the family of him being missing, a picture of him as a small boy with other items

Original plastic binding with 2 screws, 30 x 24.5 cm. Abundantly illustrated. Very good copy of this truly Sixties Pop Art catalogue, designed by the Fluxus artist Wolf Vostell. Each artist is presented with a portrait on mylar and work on tipped-in plates. Legendary catalogue with the highlights from the private collection of chocolate magnate Peter Ludwig (1925-1996), one of the first collectors to recognize the merit of American Pop Art.

[s and 1970s] Herman Nitsch signed drawing and portrait picture (1) Sketch-like drawing by Herman Nitsch (1938-2022), founder of Viennese Actionism and known for his visceral performance art practice. Blue pen and white paint on white sheet, 29.5 x 21 cm. Signed and dated 1974 on lower margin in pencil. Text in centre reads 'ende'. Moderate dog earing top right and bottom left, else fine. From the collection of Rudi Fuchs, art historian and art critic who worked with the artist during his directorship at the Van Abbemuseum (1975-1987).(2) Added is a b/w photo portrait of Nitsch made by the renown Dutch photographer Desirée Dolron. Matte print, paper 33 x 26.5 cm, image 22 x 16.5 cm. The white margins of the paper are heavily damaged, the print itself is not affected (a passe-partout will hide all wear). Signed by the artist and titled on verso 'Herman Nitsch, Schloss Prinsendorf 1999' in pen. Also from the Fuchs collection. (total 2)
