A pair of silver gilt miniature candle snuffers, a composition finial formed as the head of a bird of prey, two micro-mosaic panels, an enamelled oval panel designed as two birds, a miniature micro-mosaic panel with a fly motif, a citrine triple sided seal, two unmounted oval shell cameos designed as a classical portrait busts, a miniature rat, two Oriental oval panels, a folding hook, a carbuncle garnet drop, and various unmounted stones and fittings, and a bag of tumbled semi-precious gem stones (some faults).
An Order of the Bath C.B., military issue, silver gilt and enamels, with the original Garrard & Co case of issue (the central triple crown motif detached but present), a Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure, with the original lacquered box, fitted to a purple cord with a tassel terminal, a rectangular bronze medallion commemorating the Inter-parliamentary Conference Berlin 1908, with the portrait of Kaiser Wilhem II, cased, a Swiss badge, a MID oak leaf spray and a brass spade guinea counter.
Four Second World War medals, comprising 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, 1939-45 Defence Medal and 1939-45 War Medal, an Air Council forwarding slip, detailed `Flight Sergeant K.F. Newman` [Kenneth Frank Newman died 22nd February 1945, aged 21, and is buried at Holt Churchyard], and a black and white portrait photograph.
A Meissen porcelain vase, 20th Century, of flared form painted with opposing sprays of flowers within gilt banded decoration, crossed swords in underglaze blue to base, together with a German plate decorated with a floral spray within a raised blue and white border, a `Sèvres` porcelain ewer decorated with a bust portrait of a young girl, and a Continental porcelain perfume bottle and stopper decorated with flowers within eau-de-Nil borders and gilt scrolls.
A Victorian plaster circular medallion, moulded with a bust portrait of Queen Victoria within the framed inscription `Victoria D.G. Britanniar Regina F.D`, within a rosewood frame, diameter approx 10.4cm (chip to frame), together with a glass paperweight, the blue printed paper base with a bust portrait of Victoria and inscribed `India, Two Annas`, diameter approx 8cm, and a Victorian ivorex tondo panel, moulded in relief with a head and shoulders portrait of Queen Victoria, diameter approx 7cm, within an ebonized frame.
A mid-Victorian alphabetical and numerical sampler by Mary Bridger, dated 1877, the bands of letters and numbers above a central head and shoulders portrait of Christ, flanked by birds, animals and trees, worked in coloured wools, approx 57cm x 60cm, within an ebonized frame, together with another sampler.
A Sevres circular portrait medallion, 1808, the centre moulded with a white biscuit portrait of a lady in profile to the right, her hair pulled back into a top-knot, against an unglazed dipped pale blue ground, the moulded gilt integral frame burnished with a band of berried laurel and flower heads, the reverse pierced for suspension, printed iron red mark `M. Imple de Sevres 8`, Incised `20 A. 6`, indistinct inscription, 10.5cm (4 1/8in) diameter
Laura Jemima Muir Mackenzie (1801-1828). `Silhouettes by Laura Muir Mackenzie. Born. February 12 1801. Died. May 2 1828`. An album of cut paper silhouettes over thirty pages with title page. Page size 25cm x 19.5cm (from one to seven per page). Later sketches in pencil or watercolour at end; Together with a miniature portrait of a young girl titled in pencil `Aunt Laura`. Half green calf, quarto (wear to head and tail of spine). Laura Jemima Muir Mackenzie was born on 12 February 1801. She was the third daughter of Sir Alexander Muir Mackenzie of Delvine, Perthshire, 1st Bt. and Jane, the eldest daughter of Sir Robert Murray, Bt. Her work is an example of the continuing popularity of paper cutting as an amateur pastime. She produced much of her work in her teens, mainly group silhouettes and mainly of domestic scenes, such as babies being bathed, children playing cards and older members of a family playing chess. A silhouette of an unknown family group given to the V&A by the Hon. Frances M. Talbot (P.59-1930), presumably from this album. Provenance: Fiennes Neil Wykeham Cornwallis, 3rd Baron Cornwallis, OBE, DL (1921-2010), sold by order of the executors. Circle of George Engleheart, Portrait of `William Aiton Esqre. author of Hortus Kewensis`, shoulder length, 6.4cm x 5.3cm, oval. Titled verso. In a verre ŽglomisŽ slip and a black papier mache rectangular frame. From the portrait by George Engleheart in the collection of the Royal Botanic Garden, Kew (accession no. LO 001) William Aiton (1731-1793) was born near Hamilton in Scotland. Having been trained to the profession of a gardener, he travelled to London in 1754, and became assistant to Philip Miller, then superintendent of the Chelsea Physic Garden. In 1759 he was appointed director of the newly established botanical garden at Kew, where he remained until his death. He effected many improvements at the gardens, and in 1789 he published Hortus Kewensis, a catalogue of the plants cultivated there.
