Bernard Hailstone RP (1910-1987), a very important preparatory sketch oil on canvas, HRH Queen Elizabeth II, 85cm by 60cm, off stretcher and unframed, this good but incomplete portrait of the Queen was the study for one of two paintings which were finished works commissioned by the 16th/5th The Queen’s Royal Lancers in c.1978, as can be seen, her chin is slightly elevated, and was the preffered choice of the finished commission, some creasing and damages
