Portrait of Field Marshal Sir Samuel Hulse, commander of British forces in Wicklow and Wexford following the 1798 rebellion.A half length oval portrait miniature, attributed to Sir William John Newton (1785-1869) watercolour on card, in gilt frame. 76Other Notes: Field Marshal Sir Samuel Hulse (1746-1837) had a long and illustrious military career. As lieutenant general he was sent to Ireland with a brigade of guards at the time of the 1798 rebellion. While he was never actually engaged in putting down the rebellion, as Wicklow and Wexford District Commander he was active in the suppression of rebel forces led by General Joseph Holt, Michael Dwyer and James Corcoran. Hulse returned to England in mid-1799 to prepare for the Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland that August.Hulse was appointed Governor of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and Vice-Chamberlain of the Household of King George IV as well as a member of the Privy Council. 7 by 6in. BARROW, Isaac, Several Sermons against Evil Speaking, London 1678, comprising 10 sermons in two books, lacking anything before title page (243pp, 140pp and 2pp), bound into one volume; together with Of the Love of God and our Neighbour, London 1680 with frontis portrait and title pp (317pp and 2pp), 8vo old calf (1)Dr Isaac Barrow (1630-1677), was a theologian and mathematician, and the first holder of the Lucasian Chair of Mathematics at Cambridge University. He is also notable for being Isaac Newton's tutor, who succeeded him in the Lucasian Chair.

18th century English school - Three-quarter length portrait of a lady wearing a blue and white dress, oil on canvas (with small tears and some paint losses), 36 x 27.5cm Condition Report / Extra Information Approx 1.5cm vertical tear near her right elbow.Three small 'pin holes' to her bust.Paint generally good and stable, with fine craquelure all over.No apparent restoration or over-painting.Numerous rubbed areas and small areas of paint loss.Very dirty.Appears to be an untouched example requiring restoration.Not framed.
