French School (19th century): Miniature Bust Portrait of a Girl, with ringleted hair, on ivory, oval, 6cm by 5cm, in gilt metal frame, the reverse with lock of hair, in a leather carrying case; A Miniature Portrait, of a young lady in profile with her hair up and a white shawl, 8.5cm by 7cm; and A Wooden Easel (3)Condition report: Panel dished towards the centre but free from cracks. Lower edge slightly abraded. Metal tarnished and with a dent to the top rim of the frame. Case good but with perishing to the silk pull of the strut. Second portrait in good order free from splits and warping. Frame with heavy chipping and craquelure. Easel in good condition.

Mehnert, datiert Weihnachten (19)42 sowie *Ursula Otto freundlichst zugewandt*, Bernhard Paul Mehnert (* 5.7. 892 in Chemnitz, † 12.3.1964 in Karl-Marx-Stadt) war ein deutscher Maler, Mehnert besuchte bis 1906 die Grundschule in Chemnitz und absolvierte danach eine Lehre zum Theatermaler, er unternahm Studienreisen in die Schweiz und nach Italien und studierte 1919/20 kurzzeitig Grafik an der Kunstgewerbeakademie Dresden, er blieb danach weitgehend Autodidakt, von 1920 bis 1923 arbeitete er als Bühnenbildner in Altenburg/Thüringen, 1924 ging er wieder nach Chemnitz, arbeitete als freischaffender Künstler und wurde Mitglied der Künstlergruppe Chemnitz, 1945 wurde sein Atelier im Haus Roßmarkt 2 durch Bomben zerstört, Mehnert war Mitglied im Reichsverband Bildender Künstler Deutschlands und in der DDR im Verband Bildender Künstler, Quelle Internet, hier das Brustbild eines Mädchens im Hochformat, Blatt ca. 31 x 45,5 cm

NO RESERVE Influence on Ulysses.- Dujardin (Édouard) Les lauriers sont coupés, first edition, one of 400 copies on vélin anglais mécanique, in an edition of 420 copies, half-title with justification, etched portrait by Jacques-Émile Blanche, remains of a label to upper margin of half-title, lightly browned, original printed wrappers, spine creased and little darkened, lightly spotted and browned, 8vo, Paris, Librairie de la Revue Indépendante, 1888.⁂ Hailed as the first notable 'stream of conciousness' novel and acknowledged by Joyce as a prime influence on Ulysses. The story was first published the preceding year in the Revue Indépendante. It follows the thoughts of Daniel Prince, a naive student, who becomes enamoured by the actress Lea D'Arsay, a woman only interested in his money. As the plot develops Prince daydreams of eloping with D'Arsay and one evening at her apartment just before they are about to take an evening stroll Prince falls asleep and dreams of his past, his parents and the first girl he fell in love with. The novel derives its name from a children's song, Nous n'irons plus au bois ('We'll to the woods no more') and symbolises the withering of a laurel tree as the beginning of regrowth.
