Alexander Munro (1825-1871) Portrait Relief of Pauline, Lady Trevelyan (1816-1866) plaster with gilt border, framed in mahogany veneer frame, unsigned 48cm diam, roundel, 62cm diameter (frame). Provenance Raleigh Trevelyan (1923-2014) This relief is the original plaster model for the roundel bust f Pauline Trevelyan at Wallington, Northumberland. Sir Winston Churchill interest - a bronze faced plaque by Robert Jefferson of Poole Pottery, the circular plaque depicting a head and shoulders portrait of Sir Winston Churchill, mid-brown patination, signed with RJ monogram, on a bronzed resin back, 7¼in. (18.5cm.) diameter.* From the estate of the late Robert Jefferson, by family descent.** Condition: Very good, with no faults.
Historic Guernsey interest - the silver medal awarded to William John Caparne by the British Iris Society, the 'Foster Memorial Plaque' medal in sterling silver, hallmarked by Toye & Co., London 1936, one side cast in bas relief with an oval portrait of Sir Michael Foster, within a bed of irises, a banner above inscribed 'In Memory Sir Michael Foster 1836-1907', the reverse inscribed 'AWARDED TO W.J.CAPARNE 1936', 3½ x 2in. (8.9 x 5.1cm.), in the original fitted morocco case, weight 6.55 tr.oz. * As well as a talented painter in watercolour and pastel, although tragically little recognised in his lifetime, Caparne was in fact very much better known for his knowledge and expertise in Bearded Irises, cultivating over 200 new hybrids during his years in Guernsey and being elected a fellow of the RHS in 1899. His cultivars were grown across the globe and he was a well known name amongst nurserymen and botanists in the UK, Europe, the Americas and Australasia. The British Iris Society recognised his significant contributions with the award of the Foster Memorial Plaque in 1936, just four years before his death in Jan. 1940.
English School, early 19th century - a portrait miniature of a gentleman, Sir John Elley KCB KCH KMT KSG (1764-1839), watercolour on ivory, dressed in a blue coat with black collar and white stock, 6.8 x 5.5cm., within a foliate gilt metal frame, the reverse with a bright cut sunburst beneath opaline glass, inscribed 'Sir John Elley'.
English School (late 19th century), Portrait of a young lady, quarter length, wearing a brocade jacket and pearl jewellery oil on canvas, unsigned, in original gilt and composition fluted cavetto frame with maker's label verso for J. M. Hill, 4 Wood Street, Queen Square, Bath 11½ x 9½in. (29.1 x 24.1cm.)
An unusual page of Victorian prisoner photographs from Exeter Prison, presumably from a prison administrative ledger, each prisoner with a silver gelatin portrait photograph, a numbered plaque hanging from their collar, their name handwritten ink beneath, pasted down on a four sided leaf from a ledger with 'From Exeter Prison' handwritten to edge, each page 14¾ x 9½in. (37.5 x 24.1cm.).
Treslove family interest - two English School 18th century portrait miniatures on ivory, both oval, one signed indistinctly and dated 1770, of a gentleman in a bright green coat, sprigged waistcoat and white stock, 3.3 x 2.7cm., inscribed verso 'Peter's g.g.g.grandfather, Thomas Treslove, Born 16 May 1747, Married Feb. 1770, Died 17 April 1824'; the other unsigned, of a lady in coral pink dress with lace collar and white bonnet, 2.6 x 2.2cm., inscribed verso 'Mrs. H. Treslove, born Harriette Lightfoot, married Feb. 1770, The Mother of Thomas Crosby Treslove QC & Mrs. Kimpton', both in gilt metal frames; together with a 19th century portrait silhouette of the same lady, oval, similarly inscribed verso; and a 19th century pencil portrait of a young girl, her necklace enriched in red, signed indistinctly, probably 'Chapman RA', 7¾ x 6in. (19.7 x 15.25cm.), in a bird's eye maple frame, inscribed verso, 'This little portrait of Emily belongs to Walter [prob. Ellis], given to him by me before he quitted Loosleigh to go abroad in the summer 1849, Emily Treslove'. (4)

French School, 19th century - a portrait miniature of a mother and child, circular watercolour on ivory, the mother in low cut décolleté dress with frilled lace collar, scarf tied around her neck and a feathered hat on her powdered hair, the child holding a posy of flowers, 7cm. diameter, the ebonised frame with gilt bezel.* Condition: A small area of craquelure to the blue sky to centre right with a few tiny flakes of paint lifting a little. Otherwise good. Scratching to top centre of frame.
