An 18th century Danish gold and enamel box by Josias (Joseph) Brecheisen monogrammed and dated 1760, the exterior painted on all sides with cherubs studying geography, the arts & music, floral chased gold rim and hinge, the interior of the lid painted with a portrait of a member of the Danish court, monogrammed, dated and inscribed Copenhagen, in original velvet lined gilt tooled Moroccan leather box For a similar box see plates 585 and 586 European and American Snuff Boxes 1730 - 1830 by Clare le Corbeiller, and the Rosenborg Castle Collection, Copenhagen.
Theatrical Interest: a late Victorian vesta case and a heart shaped box and cover, each decorated with an embossed portrait of 'CHARLEY'S AUNT' and each inscribed 'From Charley's Aunt December 21st 1895', both by Walker & Hall, Sheffield 1895/1898, 2.5oz. (2) Heresay suggests that these items were given as gifts to the audience's of certain performances of the play; the heart box for ladies, the vesta case for the gentleman.
George III and his Father, a silver Box Medal for the Peace of Paris, 1763, by Jan van Nost, the screw-on lid inset with medallic portrait portrait of George II to left, the base inset with George III to right, his hair tied in a queue, 50mm. Very fine and very rare. Reference: British Historical Medals 89 [R3]; Medallic Illustrations 713/453. The Peace of Paris was concluded on the 10th February, 1763 and ratified on the 10th March. Box should contain a series of 60 roundels giving views and descriptions of the events of the Seven Years War, however such complete sets are excessively rare.
A Charles II small silver heart-shaped locket, in commemoration of his marriage to Queen Catherine of Braganza, 1662, the lid struck with his crowned bust to left, dividing C-R, the base with her portrait bust to left, with long, shaped hair, approx 26x21mm. *References: Medallic illustrations, Pl XL VII, 10, for portrait type; cf Greta Hecket Collection (lot 143)
A mixed lot: a modern powder compact engraved with a swallow, an ivory box vesta, a resin vesta with a portrait of Queen Victorian, a copper vesta enamelled with the King of Diamonds, an engraved vesta case a metalware 'man in the moon', vesta and a plated vesta set with coloured glass panels. (7)
Manner of Baldassare d'Este Portrait of a man in profile, said to be Rodolfo Gonzaga (1451-1495) inscribed along the top: Redolfo.../ REDVLPHVS. MARCHIO. GONZAGA./ LVDOVICI. FILIVS. MARCHIO. MANTVE./ LEGATVS. ETDOM INII. VENE-/ TORVM. IMPE RATOR. oil on panel 47 by 33 cm.; 18.5 by 13 in. Parts of this picture appear to be of late 15th century origin

A later copy, probably late 18th century in date, after Sebastiano del Piombo's original in the Baron Guy de Rothschild collection in Paris (reproduced in M.
