GREGOS ART, HEAD IN THE SKY resin, acrylic and spray paint on card album cover, signed31cm x 31cmGregos is a French street artist who started to display his face on the walls of Paris. He invented his own 3D concept using all the techniques he has developed and taught himself over the years, and creates a replica of his face, tongue out or smiling, that he paints and glues on the walls of Paris. Each face is a sort of self-portrait of the day to express his humors, his past, present, and future. At first, the faces were only blanks, and the message was the tongue out. Gregos’ street art concept is successful at inspiring interaction between the faces and by passers. As of today, more than 500 faces have been installed, in Paris mostly, but also in other towns of France and of the world including Europe, USA, Japan and South America. Instagram: gregosart

After a few years of mixing traveling and making art in the street TLP began to receive worldwide recognition for their contribution to the graffiti/street art movement. The London Police are Chaz Barrisson who draws the iconic ‘LADS’ character and Bob Gibson whose tight portrait and architectural illustrations help marry the two styles to create an endearing, exciting fantasy world... Their clothing choices and attendance at society events were regularly reported in the European and American press. The American Register described Madame Letellier's visit to the Riviera as "much appreciated and almost necessary for a successful season." De László painted the sitter again in 1915 [6040] in aid of the British Red Cross who auctioned the portrait to raise funds for the war effort. Marthe 'Suzanne' Louise Fourton was born on 22 August 1878 in Paris, daughter of Charles Emile Fourton and his wife Mathilde Amalia In de Betou of Sweden. Her mother held musical salons and was painted by Benjamin Constant, one of de László's teachers when studying at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1892. On 14 August 1902, at St Augustin in Paris, she married Henri Letellier (1868-1960), proprietor of the leading Paris newspaper Le Journal and one of the wealthiest men in France." She was a favourite model of Paul-César Helleu (1859-1927) who made several portraits of her. She was also painted or drawn by John Singer Sargent, François Flameng, Antonio de La Gandara in 1903 and Giovanni Boldini, who painted her twice in 1907. The sitter and her husband separated in 1907 and divorced in 1917. Helleu's daughter, Paulette Howard-Johnston, nicknamed the sitter la cruche cassée ('the broken jug'), after Jean-Baptiste Greuze's famous painting. This was a rather cruel play on 'cruche' ('twit' in French) as she was not known for her intelligence. The French art critic Louis Vauxcelles said of her that, "Among the most popular ladies of the high society we can name Madame Henri Letellier, whose powerful beauty is enhanced by an impeccable dress sense and natural style which allows her to set new trends which will last forever." The sitter died in 1949. We are grateful to Katherine Field for her kind assistance in preparing this catalogue note. Condition Report: The canvas is not relined. Some very tiny specks of paint loss to the tips of the impasto to the right of the signature along the lower edge. There are faint horizontal stretcher marks running through the centre of the work and at the lower edge, only visible clearly in a raking light. Ultraviolet light reveals evidence of scattered retouching and infilling throughout but most notably to the background. In overall good clean condition.Condition Report Disclaimer

After Bernard Lens III, an ivory miniature mourning ring, 18th century, centring on a glazed ivory miniature commonly identified as Mary, Queen of Scots, within a border of woven gold thread, to openwork shoulders and a fluted band, mounted in gold, size O1/2, miniature 1.3 x 1.0cmCf.: a portrait miniature in the Royal Collection, RCIN 420113, for an early example of this portrait by Bernard Lens III (1682-1740). It was reproduced many times by Lens on the order of his patron, the 4th Duke of Hamilton, who had discovered the original portrait and identified it as Mary, Queen of Scots - a fashionable and romantic historical figure, viewed sympathetically among his contemporaries at the courts of Queen Anne and George I. The true identity of the figure, however, is unknown, and is more likely to be Mary Bellenden, later the Duchess of Argyll (c.1690-1735).
λ Karl-August Schreinzer (1819-1897), a portrait miniature, gold and diamond bracelet, mid 19th century, the clasp set with an oval miniature on ivory reputedly depicting the engineer Charles Baird (1766-1843), within a border of cushion-shaped diamonds, to a bracelet composed of gold cylindrical links engraved to the front with Rococo-style scroll work, bracelet length 18.3cm, portrait miniature 4.2 x 3.2cm excluding frame, fitted case, portrait miniature signed Schreinzer
λ A pair of Royal portrait miniature rings, Portugal, circa 1785, each of elongated rectangular outline, containing an ivory miniature of Dom João, later King John VI of Portugal (1767-1826) and his mother, Queen Maria I of Portugal (1734-1816), each outlined with cushion-shaped diamonds, mounted in silver and gold, each size M, miniatures measuring approximately 3.0 x 1.9cm, original fitted presentation caseIt is possible that these rings were made around 1785 or shortly after, possibly as a diplomatic or personal gift, as the young prince can be seen wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece, bestowed upon him on the occasion of his marriage into the Spanish royal family that year, to the Infanta Carlota Joaquina of Spain. The two figures also wear the early green and red sash of the Three Military Orders, the design of which was changed in 1796. In 1788, Dom João's older brother Dom José died of smallpox, and Dom João became heir to the Portuguese throne. He took over from his mother as regent in 1799, and succeeded to the throne in 1816. The portrait of the Dom João is possibly an embellished version of a painting by Giuseppe Troni, a copy of which can be seen in the British Royal Collection, ref. RCIN 406047, and the portrait of Queen Maria is based on a painted likeness of her dated to circa 1785/6, reproduced by the engraver Gaspar Fróis Machado, a copy of which can be see in the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, ref. E. 236 A.
