Follower of William HogarthWilliam Hogarth's dog 'Trump'oil on canvas58.5 x 46cmThis painting is based on the celebrated self-portrait of the artist and his beloved pug 'Trump', now in the Tate Gallery. Please find an interesting article on this lot kindly written by Lars Tharp, Hogarth Curator, Foundling Museum:Article by Lars Tharp Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been lined. The picture is generally in plane and the paint layers are stable. Drying cracks have formed in the paint of the dog. Localised areas of retouching are present beneath the varnish and well matched to the original. The varnish is even but semi-matte and slightly yellowed. The surface has a slightly smeary appearance, probably due to a layer of surface dirt present.

The canvas is in plane with good tension and the paint layers are in a good condition. Retouching in the figures face and outfit is carefully applied and mainly following cracks. Circle of Jean-Marc Nattier (French, 1685-1766) Portrait of Louise-Marie of France (1737-1787), known as Madame Louise, daughter of Louis XV, half length, in a pink and white lace dress and ermine stole, holding a carnationoil on canvas62.5 x 52.5cm85 x 75cm overallProvenance: Farm House, Farm Street, Mayfair, London.Condition report: The canvas has been relined and the work has been cleaned relatively recently. A little craquelure in places. Seen under UV: there is a general washing of retouching over the background, which fluoresces purple under UV light. This appears to continue over the figure as well, however it is not clear what this is, it is possibly the varnish. There are some scattered darker small flecks of retouching places, most significantly to the upper background and right edge background, however, there are a few flecks to the chin, neck and forehead. A few touches to the left of the hair, which are probably due to craquelure. With a Louis XIV style frame and ready to hang.Dimensions of frame: 83 x 73cm overall

The painting has been painted to fit the oval slip of the frame and the edges are not completely finished. At the right side dark lines following the oval are present. The paint layer is in a good, stable condition overall. There are some deep scuffs in the paint layer at the upper left edge caused by movement in the frame. Overpaint is mainly located around the edges of the painting and applied in a wholesale, brushy manner. The varnish is even and semi glossy.

Italian School, late 18th centuryPortrait of a sculptress, bust length, working on a classical bustoil on canvas55 x 46cmProvenance: Farm House, Farm Street, Mayfair, London.Condition report: The canvas has been relined. There is craquelure in parts. There is a scratch running diagonally from the upper right edge towards the head. There are other smaller losses elsewhere, mainly to the lower sixth of the canvas, where there is also some lifting. There are several spots of retouching apparent to the eye, probably due to flaking prior to the painting being relined. The paint on the face has become a little thin and there is some detail loss. Seen under UV: the retouching does not show up under UV, possibly due to the varnish. However it is apparent that there must be more retouching, especially close to the lower edge where it is clear that the paint has become unstable.
