NO RESERVE Australia.- Binding.- Rogers (Samuel) Poems, engraved portrait frontispiece, illustrations, scattered faint spotting, contemporary highly decorative morocco presentation binding, gilt, slight rubbing to extremities, 8vo, 1854.*** Presentation binding for Rev. W. C. Sawyer, a keen amateur botanist, who was Vicar of Tunbridge Wells. This book was presumably presented to Sawyer when he became the Vicar at Tunbridge Wells. In 1867, he was appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury to the position of Bishop for Grafton and Armidale, New South Wales. He arrived in Sydney at the end of that year following a journey of several months. He then continued his journey from Sydney by ship, acquired a horse, and rode on to Armidale and Grafton where he finally settled his family on 13th March 1868. Tragically, just two nights later on March 15th, he and one of his sons were drowned on their way to church when their boat overturned on the Clarence River.
