Harvey considered the second work, on embryology, first published in 1651, to be his greatest achievement and more significant than De motu cordis. Harvey argued that all animal life arose from eggs and that the foetus developed gradually. The chapter on gynaecology and obstetrics was the first work on the subject to be written by an Englishman.

The last item is the fourth and much enlarged edition of the one of the most popular surgical texts of the 18th century, which went through many editions. Robert Walpole (1736 - 1810) was the fourth son of Horatio Walpole, 1st Baron Walpole of Wolterton, and nephew of Robert Walpole, 1st Earl of Orford, who is considered the de facto first Prime Minister of Great Britain. This painting is dated 1781 and sadly Diana died three years later in July 1784 aged only 30 years old.The painting is in good, restored condition. The painting has been re-lined. Under UV light there is evidence of cleaning and overpainting. There is extensive craquelure and cracking across the surface of the painting and some minor areas of paint loss around the edges of the canvas. The painting is ornately framed and glazed. The original frame has some minor scuffs and knocks commensurate with age.
