Late 17th century Dutch Delft portrait charger painted to the centre with William III, of lobed form with wavy rim, 13.75" diameter; also an early 18th century English Delft polychrome plate, painted to the centre with a figure in an Oriental landscape and to the border with flowers and foliage, 13.5" diameter (both at fault) (2)
John Lessore (b. 1939) - 'Room at The Slade', a scene possibly depicting the life drawing class at The Slade School of Art London, oil on canvas, 20" x 24" - *The artist was born in London and grew up in a family of practising artists, he went to The Slade and studied under the artist William Coldstream from 1957- 1961 and then went to Italy on an Abbey Minor travelling scholarship. His chief teachers were his mother who was the painter Helen Lessore and Tom Monnington. His uncle was the famous Camden Town artist Walter Richard Sickert. The picture is sold together with a letter from Doctor Graham Wakefield, Dale Cottage, Charlcombe Lane, Bath, describing the painting which had originally been placed on loan by Helen Lassore owner of The Beaux Arts Gallery, to The National Hospitals, Queen Square, London WC1. It was purchased by Doctor Wakefield from that establishment for a figure of £10 prior to him living in Bath in 1994. This letter is accompanied with a further press cutting from the arts page of a national newspaper, dated September 29th 1999 showing a black and white illustration of John Lessore's picture depicting the architects Jones & Dickson at the extension of The National Portrait Gallery.
English School, early 19th Century Portrait of a lady, head and shoulders, in a cream ballgown, pearls and ornate gold earrings, her hair in ringlets oil on canvas 75 x 62cm (29 x 24in) Loose in its frame. Craquelure overall. Old tears to her neck and downwards from there. Lined at some stage.
Edmund Ward Gill (British, 1794-1868) Portrait of a gentleman, head and shoulders, in a black jacket and black stock, seated, before a red curtain signed on the reverse "E W Gill 1828" oil on canvas 23 x 18cm (9 x 7in) Canvas No. 1254 of T Brown, London. Craquelure overall and dusty. Old stretcher bar marks can be seen from the front.

Victor Hugo (French poet, novelist, and dramatist, 1802-85) - a signed autograph letter dated 1866 of Guernsey interest, the letter handwritten in ink, dated 'H.H. 3 juin 1866' (Hauteville House 3rd June 1866), written as a testimonial to the "superior" bookbinding services provided by Mr. Henry Turner of Mill Street, Guernsey, who had bound the original manuscript of Les Travailleurs de la Mer, framed with a 19th century printed translation, newspaper cutting referring to the bookbinding service provided by Turner to Victor Hugo and portrait photogravure of Victor Hugo with facsimile signature, overall frame size 36 x 22¾in. (91.5 x 57.75cm.). *Condition; Letter and newspaper cutting with some insect damage to surface of paper in places, some foxing and time staining. Lighter insect damage to printed translation with some foxing and light mount burn. Some foxing to margins of portrait print. In a modern mahogany style frame with ivory mount.
A late 18th century French School portrait miniature in jewelled frame, Elisabeth Charlotte Pauline de Meulan, later Guizot (1773-1827), authoress, first wife of Francois Guizot, French statesman, wearing a white lace trimmed dress and blue shawl, gold ribbon waistband and pearl necklace, holding a pen in her right hand, oval watercolour on card, signed with initials 'M.P', inscribed 'Pauline de Meulan 1773' in pencil verso, within a pierced interlaced silver frame set with rose cut diamonds, the reverse with rose gold mounted glass panel with ivory silk, 5.5 x 4.3cm. overall.

(46.5 x 35.5cm.) * Provenance: By family descent from the artist. Previously sold in these rooms 12th June 2003, lot 135. * Condition: Well framed. Not examined out of frame. In good condition overall. Small brown stain at top margin towards right hand corner. No other defects noted.
