An early 20th century hardwood war club in the Iroquois style. Well-patinated, the terminal modelled as an elongated male face wearing flat headdress. 'GORE'S LANDING - ONTARIO - 1917' carved in relief to one side. The handle with drill hole for suspension loop. (Some 'fracture' marks to the top and left-hand side of head) (39.5cm). Past residents of the village of Gore's Landing (named after the Irishman, Thomas Sinclair Gore, who settled there in 1845) include the historical artist J D Kelly (1862-1958) and the miniature portrait painter Gerald Sinclair Hayward (1845-1926).

No written or anecdotal provenance is available. This picture has been in storage for the last 20 years.Condition report: Overall in good condition, no notable damage, one possible small area of overpaint on the centre of her top which fluoresces a little, but. may just be because it's a slightly lighter colour. No damage to the canvas, frame with some marks and nicks from handling.

Raeburn attributed in family history.Condition report: The painting has been relined at some point during the 20th century.The image has no glaring areas of damage or re-painting but when checked with a strong UV light an area of collar and the right hand "Bangs" of the powdered wig flourese at a slightly different level.
