Gerald Leslie Brockhurst Charles Claude Carpenter etching 300 x 225mm. final state of 4 signed and dated 1931 in reverse in the plate below the subject lower right signed in pencil lower right 1 of 70 impressions [1931] *** Charles Claude Carpenter (1858-1938) was a collector of sculpture books and prints and privately commissioned this etching. Allegedly he had commissioned a nude sculpture of Dorette the young model who was to become Brockhurst`s second wife. Although the sculpture remained unfinished Brockhurst included it on the bookcase in the background in this portrait. Carpenter was some time President of the South Metropolitan Gas Company. Although there were eighty impressions of this plate in all (including proofs) only twenty were ever offered for sale Carpenter retaining the balance with their fate unknown.

Hanhart c.1860; with plate 5 only A Jonquill from the series “Flowers of Our Hunt” after Henry Alken (2) *** John Dennis resided at Bermingham House in Galway and founded the County Galway Hunt in 1829.
Johann Pichler Ferdinand Geramb full-length military portrait after C. Hummel mezzotint 740 x 495mm. a few repaired tears in the title field another at the right side just extending into the image in substantial antique gilt frame Vienna 1805. *** Ferdinand Geramb (1772-1848) was born in France of Slovakian extraction. He rose to the post of Chamberlain to the Austrian emperor before his vehement opposition to Napoleon led him to command the Freikorp. He was later captured and imprisoned in France where a fellow prisoner was the bishop of Troyes. Under his influence Geramb became a Trappist monk. He died in Rome.

W* DYER BEAUMONT Silhouette portrait of a lady seated in a chair and companion portrait of a gentleman also seated in a chair holding a book, possibly the Reverend Hayward Browne, one signed, the other inscribed `Beaumont`, each heightened in white, 10" x 8" and 9 1/2" x 7 1/2", maple frames (2) (see illustration).
