A late 18th century circular snuff or bonbonniere box mounted with a miniature equestrian portrait of Frederick II the Great, probably German, in papier mache painted to simulate tortoiseshell, the oval portrait painted on mother of pearl with a gold bezel, the cover and base mounts in gilt metal, 8.3cm (3 1/4in) diameter. See le Corbeiller, Clare European and American Snuff Boxes 1730-1830, New York 1966, no. 661 for a very similar equestrian portrait of Frederick mounted on an ivory box in the Osterrichische Tabakregie, Vienna.
A Battersea enamel oval portrait plaque, circa 1750-1753, transfer printed in sepia with Elizabeth Gunning, in the original copper frame, 10.5cm (4 1/8in) high. Elizabeth Gunning, Duchess of Hamilton and of Argyll and 1st Baroness Hamilton of Hameldon in her own right (1733-1790). Provenance: Winifred Williams Antiques, Eastbourne (undated trade label).

English school, circa 1700. Portrait miniature of King William III and Queen Mary II. The reverse enamelled with a crown above a thistle flanked by Royal cyphers and a motto Volentes Per Populos beneath, on a white ground 2.5cm x 2.2cm, oval In an oval gold pendant frame with a suspension loop and a cable edge, 3.4cm (1 3/8in) long overall. In a later leather covered rectangular case with a handwritten provenance. Provenance: by repute given to Henry Somerset, 2nd Duke of Beaufort, by King William and Queen Mary, thence by descent. The handwritten provenance reads This fine gold locket with portraits of King William III and Queen Mary, a ducal coronet, a monogram of the - inscription Volentes Per Populos painted on white enamel, was presented to the young Duke of Beaufort on the occasion of their Majesties visit to Badminton House about 1700. The Duke, then a boy of 16, had succeeded his grandfather who died in 1699, and his mother, the Marchioness of Worcester, seems to have obtained the jewel. She subsequently married John, 1st Baron Granville and dying without further issue left the jewel to a niece Mary Granville (Mrs Delany). Mrs Delany died in 1788 and left it to her niece Mary D`Ewes (married John Port of Ilam 1770) who left it to her daughter Georgina Port (married Benjamin Waddington of Llanover 1789) who left it to her daughter Frances Waddington (married Baron de Bunsen 1817) who left it to her daughter Mary de Bunsen (married John B. Harford of Falcondale 1850) who left it to her daughter Agnes Harford (died unmarried 1936) who left it to her nephew Sir Arthur Harford, Baronet, of Falcondale.

Follower of Sir Godfrey Kneller (18th century) Portrait of a gentleman in armour oil on panel 8 x 6¼in. (20.25 x 16cm.) * Condition: Appears to be in very original condition, with no evidence of overpainting or retouching. Panel has warped slightly, causing a faint shrinkage crack to upper right, from the top edge down past the edge of the wig (approx. 2in. long). There is another smaller shrinkage crack to the very top left corner. Light and fairly even cracklure across the surface. Three small paint blisters and small (poorly) retouched chip to armour, just to left of the tip of the cravat. A few small old surface chips to the paint to lower edge from contact with frame (some beneath later varnish) and a few other elsewhere to very edges. Slightly heavier chipping to very top right corner. Painting has old revarnishing, which has matted in some areas. Label verso is illegible - paper very dark brown - and has some losses. In a 19th century gilt and gesso frame (nicotine stained, overpainted and some gesso losses).
Jean Jalabert (French, 1815-1900) Portrait of Thomas de la Rue of Guernsey, three quarter length, seated upon a chair pastel, signed and dated 1849 lower left, inscribed to contemporary pasted label verso 14¼ x 10¾in. (36.25 x 27.25cm.) * Thomas de la Rue was founder of the De La Rue printing firm, world famous for production of stamps, banknotes and playing cards.
English School (circa 1820) a portrait miniature of Rebecca Gillman of Hoveton, Norfolk, wearing a yellow dress, white chemise with blue and gilt brooch, pale pink sprigged shawl, white lace ruff collar and white lace bonnet, watercolour on ivory, 9.2 x 6.9cm., ivory split, in a black papier-mâché and gilt frame with gilt metal hanging mount.
Miss Florence Hannam (British, fl.1890-1898) a portrait miniature of Constance May Baker, wearing a blue dressed with ruched sleeves, a pearl necklace with cross pendant around her neck and her hair parted with curled fringe, oval watercolour on ivory, 9.2 x 7.3cm., the reverse glazed with ivory silk lining and tied lock of hair within, in a gilt metal frame with tied ribbon surmount. * Constance was the great grand daughter of Sir Robert Baker. The lot also includes one of his visiting cards, inscribed verso.
