* BRENDA MARK (PHILIPSON) (BRITISH 1922 - 1960), GIRL AND SUNFLOWERS gouache on paper, signed; titled on exhibition labels verso 34cm x 27cm Mounted, framed and under glass Note Brenda Mark was a talented and successful painter who died tragically young. She and Robin Philipson married in 1949. Her work is held in several public collections including The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, The Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Glasgow Museums. Imre Goth (Hungarian, 1893-1982): a sepia wash study of a nude, unsigned, 27 by 21cm, framed and glazed 50 by 44cm.Note: Imre Goth was a Jewish painter who was well known in Germany during the period of the Nazi's rise to power. Goering commissioned him to paint his portrait, but when Goering, feeling that the finished painting showed his addiction to morphine requested that his eyes be changed, Goth refused saying that he could only paint what he saw. This decision meant Goth was forced to flee for his life to the Isle of Man.
An early 19th century Sevres cabinet plate with scalloped rim. Having gros bleu ground, ozier moulded border heightened with tooled gilt and enamelled to the centre with the portrait of a lady. The smaller central repair is not noticeable from the front. The larger repair shows signs of over painting to the flowers on the left. Small area of flaking over painted. Has been sympathetically cleaned.
