Lot 6

Victorian toasting fork, the handle made form an antler, with silver mounts hallmarked Edinburgh 1842. Total length measuring 23 1/2 inches (59.5cm).

Lot 7

William IV desk inkstand of rectangular form with raised floral, acanthus leaf and scroll border with central engraved armorial, raised on four bracket feet. Central chamber stick, to each side a cut glass inkwell with silver mounts. The armorial depicts the coat of arms of Beaumont of Whitley hall, Huddersfield impaling another, possibly for the wedding of Richard Henry Beaumont of Whitley hall to Catherine, daughter of Timothy Wiggin of the USA on the 3rd December 1831. Maximum length measures 11 inches (28cm). Hallmarked Edward, Edward Jnr, John & W. Barnard London 1831. The desk stand has general scratches, marks and tarnishing to the whole reflective of the age of the piece. The engravings are worn. All hallmarks are clear and distinct to the base of the piece, the hallmarks to the mounts of the glass jars, are more worn, especially the sponsors mark. There are large noticeable chips to the base of the glass jars, also with sizeable chips to the bodies. The central chamber stick is of white metal and is not hallmarked, and therefore could possibly be associated. There is one screw missing from the base.

Lot 11

George I Christening mug of tapered form with later decorative engraving and wildlife embossing, scrolling handle with thumb rest, raised above a circular footed. Height measures 3 1/4 inches (8.5cm), weight 4.35ozt (135.3gms). Hallmark very worn, possibly London 1716. The mug is in fair condition. There are surface scratches, shallow dents and dints to the whole, as well as some deeper scrapes and notches. The engraved and embossed decoration is rubbed in places but mostly intact. There are areas of tarnish and build-ups of polish in the grooves. There are some fairly deep dents to the hollow handle, a crack in the silver where the handle is joined to the body of the mug. There are signs of repair to the piece, more so to the handle. The base rim of the mug is bent so it stands very slightly unsteadily. The inside is very tarnished and discoloured. The hallmark is very worn and difficult to read.

Lot 14

George III pair of silver goblets of plain form, each raised on circular stepped bases with thread detail. Height measures 4 3/4 inches (12.5cm), gross combined weight 9.08ozt (282.7gms). Hallmarked William Bateman I London 1819. The pair of goblets have general surface scratches, marks and tarnishing, along side some deeper scratches. There are small dints to the body along with some noticeable dents and creases where the stems meet the base. Both of the goblets wobble on there bases. The hallmarks are legible but very worn in places.

A late Victorian glass inkwell of square stepped form with sun burst base, silver mounts and hinged flat lid. Height measures 2 inches (5.5cm). Hallmarked Robert Pringle Chester 1900.

Lot 28

A late Victorian rectangular tray embossed in high relief with acanthus floral scrolls with butterfly's and birds, central vacant cartouche. Length measures 12 1/2 inches (32cm), weight 14.44ozt (449.2gms). Hallmarked Mappin Brothers London 1899. The tray is in good condition. There are surface scratches and shallow dents to the whole. There are two large patches of discolouration: on the top on the right hand side; and underneath in a panel down the middle. There is a split in the silver on the edge of the tray, and a build-up of solder underneath it where it seems a repair has been attempted. The central cartouche appears to have had a piece of a silver applied over the top, possibly to cover an engraving. On the underside of the cartouche is a stamp which reads 'MAPPIN BROTHERS 66 CHEAPSIDE. E. Co. 220 REGENT St. Wv. [?]', and the number '322550 [?]'. The hallmark is clear and unrubbed.

Lot 29

An Edwardian square glass inkwell with canted corners, hinged silver lid with engraved monogram. Height measures 3 1/2 inches (9cm). Hallmarked J. Grinsell & Sons Birmingham1901. The inkwell is in generally good condition. There are a number of scratches to the glass, and some small chips on the corners. The silver lid has some surface scratches and small areas of tarnish around the edge, but no serious damage. The hinge is loose but works well. The engraved monogram is clear and distinct. The hallmarks are easily legible. The silver is also marked '15314'. The glass liner is badly chipped around the top edge but is otherwise undamaged.

Lot 32

Victorian Christening mug of tapered form with bright cut detail engraving and personal monogram initial engraving. Height measures 3 1/2 inches (9cm), weight 5.42ozt (168.6gms). Hallmarked London 1883, sponsors mark reads J.B. The christening mug is in good condition. There are surface scratches to the whole, and some small patches of discolouration and tarnish to the exterior. The inside of the mug is discoloured entirely. There are a few shallow dents to the silver, and a more serious one near the bottom of the handle. The bright cut decoration is rubbed and less distinct than it should be. The hallmark is clear and easily legible.

Lot 33

Victorian paper knife with high relief twist silver handle, vacant cartouche and scrolling engraved mount with ivory blade, total length measures 11 1/4 inches (28.5cm), hallmarked Birmingham 1892. Together with a smaller example with silver handle with bright cut engraving and mother of pearl blade, total length measures 6 3/4 inches (17.5cm), hallmarks very rubbed possibly Birmingham 1896. Both paper knifes are in good condition. There are some minor surface scratches to the silver, and some small areas of tarnish in the grooves of the decoration. The handle of the Victorian paper knife is at a slight angle to the blade. Both blades have a number of small notches and scrapes to them, but these are more evident and serious on the mother of pearl example. Both hallmarks are rubbed, but only that of the mother of pearl knife is illegible.

Edwardian pair of egg cups with embossed acanthus leaf, floral scrolls and fluting each raised on a circular footed base, height measures 1 1/2ins (4cm). Together with an a selection of items to include three thimbles, two are hallmarked Chester, a wine bottle coaster with wooden base and pierced gallery border, diameter measures 5 1/2ins (13.5cm) hallmarked Birmingham 1992, sponsors mark reads S.J.R, a miniature photograph holder with personal engraving and stamped 800, height measures 2 3/4ins (7cm) and several continental items. The egg cups are in reasonably good condition. They have surface scratches and some build-ups of polish on the decoration. They both have dents around their bases, resulting in one of them standing unsteadily. They are hallmarked Birmingham 1901. The hallmarks are rubbed but legible. he thimbles are all in good condition. They all have polish in the decorations, as well some small surface scratches. The two hallmarks are clear. The third thimble does not have a hallmark, but it does have another mark which is hard to make out. One of the thimbles has some tiny holes in the end. he wine bottle coaster is in very good condition. There are some minor surface scratches and marks to the silver, and the wood is a bit scuffed, but there is no serious damage at all. The hallmark is clearly legible. he photograph holder has some surface scratches and small dints, but is otherwise in good condition. The hinge and clasp work well, the engraved inital 'A' and date '23.2.1915' are

Lot 46

Victorian silver cruet set the club shaped stand raises on four turned feet decoration with scroll decoration, comprising a silver salt, mustard and pepper with cut glass bodies, dated London 1874/75, together with a matching spoon and associated example, the stand marked Hunt & Roskell Late Storr & Mortimer and numbered 2862, dated London 1875. The stand for the cruet set has surface scratches to the whole, especially where the salt, mustard, and pepper stand. There are also a number of marks, dints, notches, and tarnished areas. The handle looks as though it had engraved decoration, but this has been mostly worn away. There are some areas of polish build-up, particularly on the feet. he mustard and the pepper have scuffed bottoms, and their glass has some small chips around the top and bottom. The lids of both have some surface scratches and tarnishing. The mustard's hinge looks as though it might have been repaired at some point. its lid will not unscrew. The pepper's lid unscrews easily. There are remnants of the condiments left in these two vessels. he salt and two spoons have surface scratches and marks to the whole. The gilding on the inside of the salt has worn away in places. ll the hallmarks are rubbed but still legible.

Lot 55

A pair of Edwardian associated candlesticks of shaped form with shell scroll detailing to the base, shoulder knop and sconce, raised above a fluted sectioned base. One at fault. Height measures 9 1/4 inches (24cm). Hallmarked Robert Sorley & William Sorley London 1907 and E. J. Greenberg Birmingham 1907. One of the candlesticks is in very good condition. It has some surface scratches to the whole, and several areas of tarnish to the decoration. There are some small build-ups of polish in the decoration, and some wax to the top and inside of the sconce. The silver is rubbed in places and there are a number of surface dents and dints. The candlestick stands slightly unsteadily as the base is dented. The hallmark on the edge of the base is badly rubbed but the hallamark on the underside of the base is still clearly legible. The base of the candlestick is stamped 'Sorley Silversmiths to H.M. The King Glasgow'. he other candlestick is at fault. Again there are surface scratches, dints, and small dents to the whole. There is a build-up of wax and polish on the inside of the sconce. The shaft of the candlestick is completely broken. The underside of the base is very scuffed. There are areas of tarnish in the decoration. The hallmarks are both clearly legible, as is the sponsor's mark, which

Lot 66

A 1930's cased set of four circular butter dishes and knifes with clear glass liners. Maximum diameter of each measures 3 inches (7.5cm), gross silver weight 2.91ozt (90.5gms). Hallmarked Barker Brothers Birmingham 1934/5. The butter dishes are in good condition. There are surface scratches, areas of tarnish, and shallow dents to the whole of all the dishes. The knives are all tarnished and have some small scratches, but are otherwise undamaged. The hallmarks on all the silver are clearly legible. The glass liners are undamaged other than some slight surface scratches. They could be associated as they all vary a lot in thickness and slightly in size. The case is showing signs of wear. The exterior is scuffed and grubby, and the catch is broken. The hinges are rusty but still work well. The fabric inside is a little worn and dirty, and one of the inner fabric hinges is ripped.

A pair of napkin rings with beaded borders, hallmarked Sheffield 1913, sponsors mark reads C.W.F. Together with a 1920's example with thread detail and vacant cartouche, hallmarked Birmingham 1927. Gross silver weight 1.17ozt (36.2gms).

Lot 76

A 1920's duel glass cosmetic pot with engine turned and blue enamel lids. Hallmarked Birmingham 1928, sponsors mark reads AC. The cosmetic pot is in overall good condition. The, probably molded, glass base has some small air bubbles, imperfections, surface scratches, and small chips to the whole, but no serious damage. The nail buffer is in good condition but is showing some signs of wear. The enamel is all intact, but the silver is discoloured in places and has some quite bad areas of tarnish. The suede buffer is dirty and has a ripped patch, and the wire used to keep it in place is bent but intact. The lid for the round pot is more damaged. There is a large chip in the enamel which has been covered over with what appears to be blue paint. Again, the silver is a little discoloured. Both hallamarks are rubbed but legible.

Lot 77

An early twentieth century circular bowl, with two modeled lion masks and handles, raised on four claw and foliate feet. Diameter measures 8ins (20.5cm), height 3.5ins (8.5cm), weight 20.18ozt (627.8gms). Hallmarked Elkington & Co Birmingham 1923, number 31121. The bowl is in good overall condition. The silver is bright with general surface scratches from wear and tear and very limited tarnishing.

Early twentieth century selection of associated cylindrical condiments, to include two similar peppers with decoratively pierced domed lids hallmarked Birmingham 1921, sponsors mark reads E.S.B, two similar peppers with scrolling handles, one hallmarked Chester 1901, sponsors mark W&B, the other hallmarked Chester, date letter indistinct, sponsors mark part rubbed possibly K&B, and a lidded mustard with blue glass liner, hallmark indistinct, sponsors mark E.S.B, and associated spoon. Together with a three napkin rings, a Victorian triple cigar holder with bright cut floral engraving, hallmarked Birmingham1984, etc Gross silver weight 9.08ozt (282.5gms).

Lot 81

An oak Tantalus mounted with silver plated plaques and handle, locking mechanism to the handle, with three associated glass decanters with stoppers. Height including handle measurers approximately 12 inches (31cm). The tantalus is in reasonably good condition. There are some very minor marks to the wood, and some build-ups of dirt, especially around where the decanters sit. The silver plate has worn off the plaques and handle in places, and there is a fair amount of tarnishing, especially to the underside of the handle. The locking mechanism works well still, and the handle moves freely. The velvet covered pieces of wood on which the decanters sit are all loose, and the velvet is worn, stained and dirty. The decanters are made of cut/molded glass. They are all in reasonable condition, with varying amounts of chips and dirt. One of the decanters is more badly damaged than the others. Two of them match, but there is nothing to suggest that any of them are original to the tantalus.

Together with two glass dressing table jars with silver lids, hallmarked Birmingham 1916, a third dressing table glass jar of rectangular form with silver lid embossed in high relief with acanthus scrolls, length measuring 3 1/4 inches (8cm), hallmarked Birmingham early twentieth century, a pair of small bud vases, height measures 4 inches (10cm), hallmarked Birmingham 1915, etc.

A pair of twentieth century table candlesticks with earn shaped sconces and gadrooned borders. Height measures 3 inches (8cm). Hallmarked S. Blanckensee & Son Birmingham 1917. There are surface scratches to both candlesticks. One has two small dents to the base. There is a lot of tarnish and some build-ups of wax to the insides of the sconces. The wooden bases are in good condition, but the edge of the silver around them is dented on both candlesticks. There is tarnish and remnants of polish around the decoration. The hallmarks are clear and unrubbed.

Four Georgian fiddle pattern teaspoons with a bright cut engraved cockerel to each handle, hallmarked Thomas Wallis II London 1806. A Kings pattern cake slice, hallmarked Sheffield 1976, sponsors mark reads HB. A Victorian style sifter, ornately decorated and pierced bowl, hallmarks distorted, sponsors mark reads FH. Three parts of a manicure set, Hallmarked C. Perry & Co Birmingham 1922 and a miniature hand mirror, hallmarked Birmingham 1910. Total silver weight 9.38ozt (291.9gms). The cased egg cup and spoon show some surface scratches and tarnishing. The case shows some wear, the hinge and clasp are in good working order. he sugar sifter shows surface scratches and small dents and tarnishing from day to day wear. A couple of the pierced holes to the bowl are distorted. The hallmarks to this piece are suspect-acid tests are inconclusive. It is possible that the bowl and handle were not the original item. he teaspoons show general surface scratches, one of the bowls has a dent, and another is distorted to the rim. There is a little tarnishing. The bright cut engraving to each handle is a little worn he cake slice shows general surface scratches and spots of tarnishing. he miniature mirror shows surface scratches, dents and tarnishing. There are discoloured patches to the mirror. The plaque to the back is moveable in its mount. he part manicure set, with silver handles, shows general surface scratches and tarnishing,

Lot 105

A square moulded glass inkwell with white metal hinged domed lid, height measuring 2 1/2 inches (6.5cm), together with a silver plated paper weight modeled as a man playing golf, height measures 4 inches (10cm) and a selection of white metal pencils (3). The molded glass inkwell is in good condition. There are surface scratches and areas of tarnish to the lid, but no serious damage. The hinge works well and the lid fits properly. The base of the glass is scuffed, but there is no other damage at all. There are some build-ups of dirt in the grooves of the glass. he paperweight is also in good condition. There are minor scratches to the surface, and the golf club is a little bent. he pencils and fountain pens are in varying conditions. Most are usable and in good condition, but some are dirty, missing the lead, discoloured, or worn. In total there are seven pencils, two fountain pens, and one fountain pen and pencil in one.

Lot 106

A 1940's hinged silver cigarette box of plain rectangular form with wooden interior with later added material lining. Length measures 5 3/4 inches (15cm), gross weight 11.44ozt (355.9gms). Hallmarked W. Base Birmingham 1945. The cigarette box is in reasonably good condition. There are surface scratches and areas of discolouration to the whole, as well as some dents and a few small notches to the edges. The hinge works well but the lid does not close entirely. The velvet interior is a little worn and dirty, but otherwise in good condition. The underside of the box is very dirty. The hallmarks are rubbed but clearly legible.

A pair of modern letter openers in commemoration of the Queens Silver Jubilee, engraved 1953-1977. Length measures 10 3/4 inches (27cm), weight 8.75ozt (272gms). Hallmarked Sheffield 1977, sponsors mark reads R&B. The letter openers are in good condition. Both have surface scratches, one has a few small notches to the blade, and both are tarnished. One of the letter openers is more tarnished than the other. The decoration on the ends of both is clear and unrubbed, as is the engraving on the back. Both are engraved 'THE QUEEN'S SILVER JUBILEE', and the dates '1952-1977'. One is marked '413/2500', and the other '411/2500'. The undersides of both are scuffed. The hallmarks are clearly legible.

An early twentieth century desk top clock in tortoiseshell and silver case hallmarked Mappin & Webb Birmingham 1938, height measures 3 inches (8cm). Together with a capstan inkwell with tortoise shell hinged lid, no glass liner, hallmark very distorted, possibly Mappin & Webb Birmingham 1938 and a pair of dwarf silver candlesticks, height measuring 4.5 inches (11.5cm) and hallmarked Mappin & Webb Birmingham 1938. Lot 111

George V glass preserve jar of elongated hexagonal form with sun burst decoration to the bottom, with silver lid and associated silver spoon, hallmark to the lid very rubbed possible reads Birmingham George Unite 1923, spoon hallmarked Birmingham 1945. Together with a toast rack, hallmarked Sheffield 1921, a novelty teaspoon with applied decoration and shield termination, and three napkin rings, hallmarked London 1917, Chester 1900 and Sheffield 1982. Total silver weight 9.6ozt (298.8).

Lot 112

1940s silver dressing table set comprising of a hand held mirror, brush, clothes brush and comb all with engine turned decoration and personal engraving. The dressing table set is in reasonably good condition. There are surface scratches and dents to all of the silver, and the engine turned decoration is worn in places. There are areas of tarnish in the grooves of the reeding. The glass in the mirror is spotted with age. The bristles of the brushes are discoloured and splayed, and there are a lot missing from the clothes brush. The wooden parts of the brushes are dirty and worn, and there are polish stains on parts of them. The silver mount on the comb is loose and there is a build-up of dirt and polish underneath it. The hallmark and cartouche on the comb are very rubbed and the hallmark is illegible. The 'Peggy' engravings on the other pieces are all rubbed but still legible, and the hallmarks are all indistinct and of varying degrees of legibility.

Lot 113

Twentieth century condiment set comprising of a pepper pot, mustard dish with spoon and an open salt all raised on four curved decorative legs and with blue glass interiors. The condiment set is in poor condition. There are large amounts of tarnish, mould, salt damage, and build-ups of dirt to all the items. All of the items have bent legs and none of them stand steadily. They are all electro plated nickel silver, and the plating has worn off in many areas. The marks are worn and some are legible but others are indistinct. here is a large dent to the side of the pepper pot, and the lid is bent and has a build-up of polish. It does still fit properly, however. he mustard pot has several dents to it, and although the hinge works well, the lid does not fit properly. The edge of the glass liner is chipped. The spoon is badly bent. here are some small bends to the lip and a dent in the side of the salt. There are chips in the glass liner.

George V scrolling twin handled cup of plain form with flared lip and small engraved head of a stag. Height measures 2 1/2 inches, hallmarked Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst Ltd London 1910. Together with a George V lidded mustard pot, with shell thumb piece and blue glass liner, hallmarked Chester 1915, a modern coaster with foliate engraving, hallmarked Birmingham 1968, a pair of sugar nips, hallmarked Sheffield 1929 and a pair of Edwardian napkin rings with monogrammed initial engraving, hallmarked Birmingham 1907. Gross silver weight 7.46ozt (232gms). The cup is in reasonable condition. There are surface scratches and shallow dents to the whole, and tarnish and build-ups of polish around the handles. The inside of the cup is a little discoloured. The engraved decoration is clear and unrubbed, and the hallmark is a little worn but still easily legible. One of the handles is a little bent. he mustard is also in reasonable condition. The lid is badly bent and does not fit properly anymore. There is a large dent in it where the shell thumb piece is attached. There are surface scratches and a few very minor dents to the rest of the mustard. The hallmarks are a bit rubbed but still legible. The glass liner is dirty and a little scuffed. he coaster is in good condition. There are surface scratches and scuffs to the whole along with some small spots of tarnish, but it is otherwise undamaged. The engraved decoration and hallmarks are clear and unrubbed. he sugar nips are in reasonably good condition.

A modern circular tapered dish of plain form, raised above a circular flared foot. Maximum diameter measures 6 inches (15cm). Hallmarked Birmingham1943, sponsors mark reads J.C.Ltd. Together with an egg cup of plain form hallmarked Birmingham 1928 and a glass jar with silver embossed mount hallmarked Birmingham 1910. Gross combined silver weight 8.98ozt (279.4gms).

Lot 123

A George V moulded glass claret jug of bulbous form with silver mounted collar, lid and handle with leaf capped decoration to the handle and knop, raised above a circular footed base. Total height measures 10 1/2 inches (27.5cm). Hallmarked Sheffield 1923, sponsors mark reads F&S. The jug is in reasonable condition. There are some ver minor surface scratches and dints to the lid, but the engraved letter 'W' is clear and unrubbed. The foliate decoration on the handle is a little rubbed but still in good condition. There is a build-up of polish inside the spout and around the hinge. There are also some build-ups of polish on the glass. There is a significant chip to the bottom of the jug. The hallmarks are both clear and unrubbed.

A selection of silver plated items to include an ornate four piece tea service, comprising Sugar, milk, hot water and tea pot with floral and foliate detail engraving with ornate bracket feet, together with a large tray with pierced gallery border with acanthus floral scroll engraving, raised on four bun feet, maximum diameter measures 16 1/2 inches, a further hot water jug and pewter mug.

Lot 159

Russian late nineteenth to early twentieth century ornamental silver gilt mug. The body decorated in high relief with three framed figures in traditional dress, raised above a circular footed base with gadrooned detail and scrolling shaped handle. Height including handle 4 1/2 inches (12cm), weight 9.56ozt (297.3gms). Hallmarked to the base, the hallmark is most probably for Moscow 1899-1908 and the assayer I Sorokina 1899-1900 (Postnikova-Loseva 3879), however also marked with a workman's head and hammer facing to the right with 875, possibly relating to later in the twentieth century and a further mark which reads MOS-P. The mug is in very good condition. There are some blemishes and patches of discolouration to the whole, but nothing serious. The gilding on the inside of the mug is in very good condition, but on the outside it is a little worn. The decoration is all in excellent condition but the tops of the frames are a little bent. The hallmarks are all clear and legible.

A selection of associated early twentieth century silver handled pistol grip knifes, to include some carving flatware, hallmarked Sheffield, sponsors mark reads J.R, date letters indistinct. Together with a set of five Victorian teaspoons, hallmarked Glasgow 1877, sponsors mark reads R.S and a further Georgian condiment spoon, hallmarked London 1822, sponsors mark part rubbed possibly Hester Bateman etc.

A Victorian cased spoon and fork christening set with bright cut engraving, hallmarked Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall London 1886 and Sheffield 1887, together with a further twentieth century cased christening set, a pair of decorative Edwardian cased preserve spoons, hallmarked Sheffield 1902, sponsors mark reads 1902 and a Georgian and Victorian condiment spoon. Gross silver weight 6.71ozt (208.6gms). The Victorian cased fork and spoon are in excellent condition. The tip of the bowl of the spoon is a little bent, and there are minor surface scratches to both items. The prongs of the fork are slightly notched and blunted. The bright cut engraved decoration is clear and distinct, and the hallmarks are unrubbed and legible. he twentieth century cased set is in good condition. Again there are surface scratches, and patches of tarnish to the whole. The prongs of the fork are bent, and there are some pits to the inside of the bowl of the spoon. The decoration to the handles is a little rubbed in places. There are engraved monograms reading AFW to the undersides of the handles. These monograms are clear and unrubbed. The hallmark on the spoon is slightly worn but still legible, and on the fork is distinct and crisp. he preserve spoons are in good condition as well. There is a large amount of tarnish towards the ends of the bowls and handles, and surface

A modern silver cased canteen of six place settings, comprising six dinner knifes, six side knifes, six pairs of fish eaters, six dinner forks, six side forks, six desert spoons, six soup spoons, six teaspoons, two table spoons, one small ladle and carving knife fork and sharpener each with rope twist detail to the handles, each hallmarked Sheffield 1976, possibly Roberts and Belk, total weight 111.5ozt. Together with an Old English Georgian basting spoon, hallmarked London 1823, sponsors mark reads JB, a modern sauce ladle, hallmarked Sheffield 1958 and a three piece silver plated condiment set.

Lot 206

Five items, to include a silver plated salt with beaded outer edging on four ball feet, a commemorative farmers club medal, a pair of glasses, a circular box with interior mirror and a George V (1914/1918) Medal with ribbon. All of the items are in generally fair condition. There are just minor scratches to the silver, again minor scratches to the silver box, the inscription to the top is quite seriously worn. The glasses are in fair condition, there is general tarnishing to the metal work, they look worn. Both commemorative medals show minor tarnishing and scratches.
