Three old albums of Christmas greeting cards ' some dating to Victorian times and a few personally signed by members of the Royal family (see the first three of our 14 photographs.) The albums contain approximately 732 old cards of various sizes from decades of yesteryear, all meticulously inserted into the albums with removable corners, so the cards are easily extracted. Four of the cards are signed by Princess Louise in the 1880s. She was the daughter of Edward VII, and later the Duchess of Fife. Another is signed by Princess Victoria, who was also Edward's daughter. There is a Christmas card with envelope signed and dedicated by Princess Alice Mary of Albany, a grand-daughter of Queen Victoria., and another signed by Queen Alexandra, Edward's VII's wife and consort. A number of the cards are marked with the prices paid by the late owner, which appear to range from £2 to £5 each. There may be figures outside of this range, but the combined figure clearly totted up over the years. These albums come from the same collection as the 14 albums of Christmas-related old postcards which appeared in our July sale. There are various publishers, but a number are by Raphael Tuck, the prolific postcard publisher. A number of the cards are silk. One card featured in one of the images has sterling silver charms attached to it for a Christmas pudding, including a donkey, pig and horseshoe. One card appears to have a penny red stamp attached to it. A Charles Dickens souvenir card is another which catches the eye. The albums are delightful and well worth a view to fully appreciate their charms.
