A set of four Arts and Crafts Britannia standard silver tazze, London 1909 by Nelson Dawson. Copies of a tazza dated 1557 formerly in the collection of Tsar of Russia. The hammered shallow bowls engraved and cross-hatched with stylised foliage and scrollwork, the centre with a profile of a Roman soldier; on flared column stems with ropetwist knops and panelled spreading bases decorated with bust profiles of Romanesque figures. Diameter 18cm, height 15cm, 79.73ozt (4)These Tazze were part of the William Newall collection and are recorded in his handwritten ledger as follows:'4 copies in Britannia Silver of a tazza dated 1557 in the collection of the Tsar of Russia- made by Nelson Dawson at £21' - (each).
