A Charles I silver slip top spoon by William Cary, London 1641. The slip end engraved with an armorial, probably for John Kaye Bt (1616-1662), length 18cm, 52.5g.John Kaye Bt (1616-1662), was Colonel of the Horse in Charles I’s army during the English Civil War. He was created baronet in February 1642. Kaye mustered 700 men for the Battle of Naseby in June 1645.His title was forfeited during the Commonwealth, but reinstated on the restoration of Charles II in 1660. The hallmarks are slightly rubbed but still decipherable. Generally light scratches commensurate with age.
An early 20th century Swiss silver singing bird box by Karl Griesbaum. Cast in relief with Teniers style subjects, the oval hinge lid revealing a feathered singing bird automaton, the back with a key compartment, width 10cm, original fitted box.The bird doesn't appear to sing so will need attention.
